belts not allined !

i just brought a 1990 240sx with a sr20det and it has some problems the belt that goes around the crank , water pump , and alternator its just off a little and if i run it to long the belt will pop off and its the alternator and the way it sits

has anyone had this problem before ?????and what should i do ?

The stock crank pulley is actually 2 pieces. It sounds like the rubber between teh alt/water pump section is deteriorated and the outer pullies (PS and a/c) are sliding out and popping the belt off.

If you dont use a/c then get a UR Pulley and enjoy. If you use a/c or have a 400w+ stereo then get a stock unit from http://www.heavythrottle.com

How much is it misaligned? I bet the alternator is off a KA. When you do the "ka alternator swap" when you put the SR pulley on the KA alternator, the pulley rubs on the alternator housing. The proper way to fix this, is to grind down the housing ~ 1/8" and put the pulley on. The easy way to fix it is put a washer between the bearing and the pulley. This causes the pulley to stick out ~1/8" more than it should
