1st post. I have an 01 Altima, with an 06 engine. I was experiencing serious belt vibration, so I changed both the belt and tensioner. I now still get vibration when at idle. I had someone put the car in gear while braking, and the belt is "flopping", causing the vibration. I do not notice any loss of power or performance, it is just annoying as hell. Is there some other way to tighten the belt?

I searched this and other forums, but no answers. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Are you sure the tensioner and belt were installed correctly? And that the belt is the proper size? There's no way a belt is going to flop around if it is new and the tensioner is new and both are installed to spec.

01 altima with an 06 engine? I'm a bit confused, did you have the 2.4L replaced in 06? Or is your car an 02 with a 2.5L that was replaced in 06? I have seen QR25 motors that have that problem but they did not come out until 02.

Yes...please forgive me- your question made me want to go outside and look at the VIN to confirm the year of my car. Weird...the sticker inside the door says it's an 01, but the VIN reflects that it is in fact an 02 2.5l.

So, to confirm to all-

It is an 02 body, with an 06 remanufactured 2.5l engine. There is a plate on the side of the engine block that reflects the 2006 build date (my mechanic pointed it out to me)And, to answer the earlier reply- The tensioner and belt are in fact installed to spec, and are brand new. I also want to clear things up- I may have exagerated with the word "flop" . It's more like a vibration, only when idle (at a red light). Just enough vibration to get under my skin---if you know what I mean?!This may be a really dumb question, but I'll ask anyway...Is there a spray or something that I can apply to the belt to "tighten/stiffen" it up? seems like minor adjustment will fix the issue. DANG I hate auto-tensioners!!!

Yes, you can buy belt dressing from an auto parts store. Spray the belt and the vibration should stop. The vibration however can be an indication of additional problems such as an A/C compressor beginning to seize or an overcharge of R-134a.

Could be the alternator too. When it runs, look at the alternator pulley (and all pulleys for that matter) and see if they run true or if they rotate crooked like a bent bicycle wheel.
