2007 G35 Journey. I'm going through the alternator replacement one more time (see another thread for my charging system woes) and when I went to release the belt tension the tensioner won't budge. Looks like it has busted internally. I'm looking for a replacement, but if anybody has an idea how to release the belt tension without cutting it and have all that energy released that can injure or damage parts I'm open.

Hi Tom -

When you say it appears to be "busted internally," it still should have a socket head on the exterior to allow temporary retraction against the spring tension. I've seen people attempt to rotate the tensioner the wrong way and break off the tool interface.

I've done some redneck movement of one with a ratchet strap in the past, but that's best to avoid if possible. :)

I got it off today. Loosened the bolt then pried it away from the bracket and it popped off nice and easy.
