My belt tensioner has been giving me some clicking noises, so I brought my 2007 G35 sedan to an independent garage to get it replaced. They ordered a new part, and when it came in, the pulley had a little play in it - a 1 to 2 degree wobble on the axis of the pulley. They sent that one back, and the next one came in just like the first.

Has anyone seen this before? Is it normal? Any input is appreciated.

I'll know in a week or two when I replace my belt. Unfortunately can't find anything that says yes or no.

After a very long back and forth process, involving multiple tension pulley assemblies (all with the same wobble), I now have a new one installed. I had them save the old one for me; it was definitely the source of the clicking, and it also had a wobble to the pulley. The garage guy who put it in wasn't happy about the wobble, but he couldn't get Infiniti to tell him that it wasn't normal, so he put it in. We'll see if this one lasts longer than the old one.

It'll be interesting to see what Audtatious has to say when he replaces his. Personally I would not want any wobble in a pulley and have never seen a belt pulley that had wobble or play of any kind in it unless it was worn out.

Did you see the part # of the one the mechanic installed? Looks like it should be 11955-1EA9D.

I don't know what your FSM says, but usually it says to replace the auto tensioner and idler pulley at the same time.
