Which S-belt, tensioner, and idler pulleys do you recommend?

I've always gone with Gates in the past on my Fords with no problems. Is Gates still a good choice for Infiniti?

The belt is definitely worn and I figure while I'm at it, I'll replace the tensioner and pulleys to get another easy-going 80k miles.

I am far from an "OEM parts only" guy but I do always start by pricing out the OEM part and seeing how it compares to the aftermarket. Many times the OEM part is close to or cheaper than the aftermarket.

Well a belt is a belt. I ordered a Gates from Amazon for $25. As far as the other stuff goes, I will want to get the old belt off and see how the bearings feel on the idler pulleys and tensioner pulley.

The tensioner itself is extremely stiff. Normally, I can manipulate these tensioners easy with a regular 3/8" ratchet. The one in my M37 takes more strength than I am comfortable giving it before I brake the tensioner, the ratchet, or my fingers (if and when it finally does break lose). Is this normal for this car? I sprayed some PB Blaster on the backside of it and it atleast wiggles a bit with the same amount of force I've been giving it but I still can't get it off.

Is this normal or is there an issue with my tensioner?

This. I'll look for OEM parts on EBay, etc. and if I can't find anything within a $1 or $2 (or even $5) of the aftermarket, then I'll go aftermarket.

I'll go with OEM parts should I need to for the tensioner and pulleys. Right now, I need to just get the damn tensioner to back off without breaking anything..... If I have to replace these things, do you replace the bolts, too? I've never replaced the bolts or washers in the past.

Oh geeze, as embarrasing as it is, I was torquing the tensioner the wrong way.

I got the belt, tensioner, and all 3 idler pulleys off. One of the grooved pulleys is just starting to make a little noise and not spin true. I'm going to let it go until the next oil change in 5000 miles. The new Gates belt went on piece of cake.....after shedding some blood.

Bleeding while working on a car is just a bonding experience that brings you two closer. So is swearing at it. But when you're on the interstate and open it up, she thanks you.
