Last winter when I would start my car my belt would squeal for about 5 seconds. then would be fine. Only happend like 6 times. Now 7months l8r belt is squealing again. I think it is my drive belt..not exactly sure though. It doesn't squeal on startup anymore though. Anytime I go past 5k it squeals.Although on my way up here on a 1100mile trip it hasn't squealed once. And I have been past 5k a couple times. MY dad checked my belts for me and said they were ok..not loose and decent condition. You guys have any ideas of what it could be. Or is it just that my dad didn't check it good enough and one of my belts needs replaced/tightened.

1) buy some belt dressing.2) spray on belts one at a time3) when squealing stops, tighten or replace that belt.

Or you could just push on the belts, you can usually tell if one needs tightened. They do from time to time. If you push on the longest distance between pullies and it deflects more than 2" or so, tighten them. Don't tighten too much or you can burn up the bearings.

If you have more than 30K on the belts, its time for el-replace-o regardless of how good they may look. When you do, take your current ones and stuff them in the trunk for the rare occasion when you might need them suddenly.
