So I replaced all of the belts on my 1996 240sx with about 86k miles on it because they were the originals and would squeal above 3k rpm. The belts were inspected but had no cracks whatsoever. After replacing them and adjusting the tension, they now squeal above 4k rpm. Do I need to add more tension or is there something else wrong?

I had a similar problem - in fact it was my wifes car and she had them originally replaced at a mechanic and 6 months later they squealed like crazy when it was cold.

I had to tighten them twice to get it to stop. Some of the belts have such a short run it's hard to tell if they are tight. So I would just go over them again and remember to loosen the pivot bolts where necessary otherwise nothing will happen. Just take your time and constantly check for tightness.

Try spraying a small amount of wd-40 on the pullies while the engine is running. Dont apply too much. To check your tension, twist an area of the belt thats between lets say the crank and power steering, and see if it twist 180 degrees or more. If it does thatn its too loose.
