I just had the engine drive belts replaced on '03 G35. The dealer said they were cracked and dried out. Said better to replace now, then when it breaks on the highway. Car is 7/02 build date, with 43K miles. Is this premature wear ?? They also changed brake fluid, he said it was very dark.

I though belts go to 100K ? or can they get "weather beaten" regardless of mileage.

My 17 years experince with Infiniti [in the South] shows that by 30-40k the belts are cracked and should be replaced to avoid future failure.

Cracking depends on local ozone levels, as that attacks the rubber.

Important that the tension is measured and set correctly with a gauge.

Too much tension can wear the bearings faster in alternator and other components..........idler pullies.

Few rubber components [hoses, belts, isolators, etc] last without proper antioxidant treatment frequently.

If you don't mind my asking - what did the belt replacement cost? I think I need to have mine replaced as well. Just wondering what to expect.

30K ?????

3 times now at every 100K I replaced the timing belt and all accessory belts on our 93 Nissan Quest . The old belts looked good but I changed them all as PM.

Note.... K meaning kilometers
