I had to replace my water pump, so I had to remove the alternator/water pump belt. The belts were replaced not too long ago (around thanksgiving I think) and I havent driven the car in a month. The last 3 days have been alright, but last night (temp dropped and it was cold) when I was just doing my daily "test drive" it squealed.

It squealed on start up and when I put it in gear (auto) the RPMs dropped and the car actually cut off a couple of times. And cutting my lights on really made the rpms drop and make the car cut off. I know its the power steering and alternator belt. The problem is I dont know if its too tight, too loose, or if its the antifreeze that spilt on it. I also know belts squeal more when its cold and they may need replacing, but they didnt when they were replaced.

This was the first night it squealed, then I promptly pulled back into the drive way and just let the car idle and warm up.

Any ideas?

tighten the belt more, most nissans are finiky on the belt adjustment. the belt should have very little deflection when properly adjusted.

It seemed to have worked. But then again its like 75 degrees outside as opposed to like 40 the other night. My idle is 700-750 and it doesnt drop when I cut the lights on.

I'll update if it happens to get cold one night. Thanks.
