I have some squeaky belts. I got some belt dressing, however, I'm not sure where to put it, it is very difficult to get near the pullies with the air hose and engine in the way. How can I do this? Where must the dressing itself go?

In a word, don't.

Fix the problem, don't treat the syptoms.

Palliatives are ineffective.

I had two mechanics at the Firestone Tire Center say it was normal for there to be some squeaks. The belts look new and they said it was normal on older cars, or on newer belts.

Is this wrong?

It squeaks on startup for a few seconds, getting worse when I apply the accelerator. Then it goes away. Starting it up in the afternoon isn't as bad, and if its warm enough I dont hear anything.

Is there something wrong?

If tensioner bearings and pulleys are working, then there should be no slippage of an in specification belt. If belt is old and dracked, replace now.

You did not mention the condition of any of these important components.

If it is constant squeaks, look at the pulleys/bearings.

If it is startup squeak, use belt dressing. I have startup squeak due to some engine gunk cleaner spill on the belts during a powerwash scenario a couple of weeks ago. Belt dressing did help me there..just have to wait it out..
