i am in the process of building my datsun ute which will have a ca18det backed by a nissan auto g/box (jatco 4N71B, ca18det has RE4R01A).

i know it may not be a popular conversion, to an auto that is, but me and manual gearboxes just dont get along plus i want consistency and realiability.

i have one question, will a ca20 auto bellhousing fit a ca18det engine ?

thanks heaps.

i have this slight feeling that it wont... as far as i know you need the ca18det bellhousing. someone should be able to help you out with a relatively cheap one though... of course i am not absolutely sure that this is the case, it might fit.

guys he's in australia for starters, and the CA20 only came in fwd (right?), so i doubt a fwd bellhousing is going to mate with a rwd transmission(even if it fits the CA18 block)... might try a CA18ET auto transmission if they made any...

Was the CA20 a different block Sean? I thought it was just a longer stroke crank?

if they all use the same block, then all the CA bellhousings will bolt up to any CA block... I still don't think a fwd bellhousing will fit a rwd transmission, but if they made rwd CA20's (now that I think about it, didn't some s12's come with CA20's?) I think it would work.

the CA20E was the "lower" engine the S12 200SX/Gazelles came with
