bell housing swap question

If swaping a CA or SR bell housing on to a KA trans is it important to have the bell housing shimmed or dose it not matter? I hear 2 different stories.

i dont know chris. but what i didn my ae86 was just swap the bellhousing. there is a shim between the bellhousing and the transmission.

There aren't any shims for the bellhousings

i guess it wasnt a shim, but it was a metal o ring that goes between the transmission and the bh.

Are you talking about the sandwich plate that supports the bearings for the gearbox? That's all I can think that you're talking about.
