I am not going to end up doing an engine swap just because of the practicality. I live in Southern CA and it would be a Biatch to put it through smog. I was wonderring what could I do to my stock car for now to make it a little quicker. I don't want a rocket or anything but somethine nice and reliable. It is a 95 240sx (base) Stock. I have a bomex kit and some rims. other than that I have a front strut bar. what would you guys do to it if you just wanted something nice and not a swap? It's my everyday car here and I don't want the hassles of getting pulled over by a cop and stuff like that. any help would be appriciated..oo also if you guys could let me know how much the damage could be

intake is always good, ignition upgrades, a greddy exhaust (cause they're quieter) i don't know if the HS headers are smog legal or not but there is plenty you can do:cool:

I'd do a catback exhaust and CAI first of all. No, actually first I would make sure everything is running in top shape. New fuel filter, good plugs w/proper gap, wires, ignition and then do the mods I just listed.

I think that if you are careful you can buy some parts off the classifieds and save a bunch of $$$.

Oh yeah, be sure to put some money back for basic repairs when they pop up. I just spent about $300 to replace all of my rear brake components. :doh

of course taking care of basic maintenance first helps...

as for me i am the same way, i don't really need a neck-breaking car, i autocross though. As for the exhaust , i was told to get the N1, just in case i change my mind and go turbo in the future i don't have to get a new exhaust, i was told on FA that the low-end pwr loss is minimal with the N1 .. so i'll probably get that eventually, of course after getting my intake, and sway bars.

anybody ever actually buy something off the classified? how did it go? i'm paranoid about stuff like that.

now with the N1, would you go dual or single??

and wouldn't you need to get the 2.5" for N/A application? cuz the 3.0" would be really realyl loud for our apps...

It's amazing to me the number of people that don't take care of basic maintenance first, make mods instead and wonder why their car runs like ****.

Are you an SCCA member? I've only run in the STS class. There aren't too many 240's running auto-x around here.

I would do suspension first, get the car to handle real good. Of course, do your maintenance man! Fuel filter, flushes, throttle body cleaning, plugs and wires, ect.

If you wanted best bang for the buck, go nos. You can always take out the bottle when doing your daily driving, and hook it up on the track or streets or whenever you please. Maybe even turbo your KA?

There's alot of things that can be done to an all motor 240, its just pretty expensive

Here is how to do it with an all-motor car:

Eibach Sportlines (not TOO low, still aggressive) ($200)KYB AGX Shocks (adjustable, good for around town) ($400)2.5-Inch Cat-Back (get a muffler shop to do it, much cheaper and jsut as good) ($190)CAI (Injen is a good one), short ram if thats all you can afford (I don't have $300 for an Injen intake and CAE) ($150-300)Hotshot Header ($325)PDM Cams (Stage II would be good for daily driver) ($250+Core Charge)JWT ECU (tell them about all these previous mods) ($550)Ignition (MSD, etc) ($200)NOS (if you have a low mileage engine) ($500 + refills)IF YOU WANT TO DO SOME SERIOUS WORK

Port and Polish Head (not too bad, just gotta get the damn thing off)Port and Polish Intake ManifoldHigher Compression Pistons and Rings

After ALL THIS, and getting your JWT ECU retuned for it ($50) you can push 210-220 HP. Not too bad for an all-motor car.
