Trying to remove my brake booster to paint (leaking master cylinder ate up paint, some rust)

I pulled the line, removed the cotter pin and am trying to remove the clevis pin. However there's a plastic piece on the tip of the clevis pin.

I don't see how to remove it, and the only reference i seem to find about it is that "if it is damaged or deformed replace it".

That being said I don't want to just pry on it till it comes off, it doesn't' seem to want to twist off either, but the plastic clip seems to big to allow the clevis pin to go through the hole (seemingly it's intended purpose). So how do I get the pin out of there?

When I usually do 5-speed conversions on Maximas and 240sxs, I usually get the clevis pins without that plastic retainer piece. I install them anyways and I have yet to have any problems. I say just snap/break it off. It shouldn't matter because you still have the cotter pin holding the clevis pin in. And the bore of the clevis pin is uniform throughout the area that it goes through the master cylinder and the pedal, then tapers down after it exits the the other side. I say go for it and "pop" it off and don't worry about it.

ended up snapping it indeed, what was that things purpose? To keep the cotter pin from bending outward?
