Beeping for no apparent reason

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have just purchased a 2008 EX35. I love the car but am having a very frustrating problem.Beeping (that I assume is coming from the proximity sensors) is driving me nuts.

I can be a few feet from the car in front and back of me the the beep goes on.

If there is no car near at al,l and I stop at a crosswalk with a wide white line on the asphalt the beeping goes off.

Anybody else have this problem or know of a solution?

I can tolerate the occasional beep I get when a car passes on my left or right or if it approaches very close at a stop, but this is ridiculous.

Thanks

I have only had this happen once or twice during my ownership. The one time I was in stop and guy traffic and the thing was going nuts. I just reached down and turned it off.

Have you checked to see if your lane departure sensors are on? Assuming you have that option that could be what you are hearing. It is designed to alert you if you are crossing any painted line without using your turn signal. Good for using when on cruise control on the highway. If you begin to get sleepy and drift out of your lane the system will beep and actually try to correct you back into your lane. I had the same beeping issue until I realized it was the departure sensors. Anytime I got close to the painted line it would sound.

A little more info on the lane departure system. If you are not aware of how to turn the system off and on, there is a button on the right side of your steering wheel with a picture of a car with white lines on both sides, pushing that button will turn the system on and off.

Thanks for all the replies, unfortunately I do not have the Land Departure Warning System. I certainly would have mentioned that in my original post.I only have the standard proximity warning system.So...I still need help.

The LDW & LDP only work above 40mph though, so I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem in this case. I have the around view monitor though, so I only get proximity beeps when I'm in reverse or if I'm doing <5mph with the camera turned on. Is there some setting somewhere to change the sensitivity of the proximity sensors?

What I've done was to turn the beep sound off by clicking on the rearview (back) camera screen. The sensors still show up on the screen but not the annoying beep sound.

My car is not equipped with the system you refer to.I just have the rear view camera in reverse. No wrap around view.No sensor appear on the screen. No way to click it either.

Do you have the button shown on p.5-48 of the Owner's Manual? If so, you could turn it OFF to see if the beeps stop. That way, you'll have at least verified the source of the beeping.

Thanks,I do have that button and it does stop the beeps!I wish I had known about that earlier....our two hour drive up the coast today would have been much more relaxing without the constant beeping.

Now just need to find out why it is firing off so often.

Sometimes the weight sensors in the ground at a traffic light can set it off. I know of a few intersections where it happens all the time.

It goes away after you drive off.

Also, the proximity sensor turns off after you go above a certain speed (like 10 MPH or something) so if it is still going on above that speed, then you better take it to the dealer.

I know exactly what you mean. It happens to me many times when there's a higher than normal centre median close to the car. And it ocassionally happens when there's just another car infront of me. My solution is to turn it off manually as it drives me nuts.

Turns out the connection to one of the sensors had come loose, making everything erratic.

Good to know you found the solution! Plus, you now know how to turn it off whenever the beeps get too annoying (for whatever reason)!!
