all,

I'm new around here, it's kinda nice to hear someone who doesn't say, "get an SR-20"

not that I don't like 8000 rpms and more, but it's nice to be different.

I've got lots of experience with just about anything related to vehicle customization.... car audio / electronics, custom fab work, diesel turbo work, classic restoration, auto body, chassis work, etc.

I've made a KA-t before, and back when noone even knew what the idea was. Circa 1998 I did a t3/t4 swap on a 95 mini truck for a guy. It boosted 7psi on the wastegate with a rising rate regulator and it would spin the tires from a rolling punch at anything below 70 mpg. Of course it wasn't fast, cause it was a lowered mini truck with crappy suspension, but it made good power.

Of course, the guy that I made it for didn't listen to me, and dialed the wastegate up to 15 psi before he even replaced the STOCK CAT-BACK (2 1/2" mandrel downpipe) and immediately blew the rings out of the motor. It was boosting so hard and the rings were so bad it was blowing the dipstick out of the block

I hate to see my hard work wasted, but it is pretty damn funny when I think about it.

So anyway, I bought a 95 240 this weekend, and am considering swapping some stuff around on it.

My first priority is paint, as It looks like crap right now, and it is going to be my daily driver for a while to keep mileage down on my truck. I have a 80 mile round trip commute to work so a car is a lot more feasible than rolling 7500 pounds of metal down the road every day.

My performance plans are pretty minimal for the car in the next year. I've got a lot of other projects working, so time / money for this car will be minimal.

What I do plan on doing is a DIY low boost turbo swap.

It'll start with some instrumentation (dash needs replaced anyway, may as well do some glass work while I'm at it). It'll get boost, pyro, oil pressure, and AFR in a pod on top of the dash, over the speedo and tach. I know, everyone else does A pillar pods, but I've never liked them. I have one on my truck and I have to remind myself to look at it, too far out of my field of view.

Once I have the right guages (mainly AFR) it'll get the turbo. I figure it'll be a T3/T4 with a log manifold and 2 1/2" exhaust all the way out. I'll see how much boost I can get away with using only a cold air breather and a rising rate regulator. I figure this will be good for 6-7 psi, which is nothing to write home and tell mom about, but it's at least more fun than a stock car:)

Once it's making a little bit of power, I'll start dialing in all the other problems I'm sure will manifest themselves. It's already lowered with KYB struts. I'm sure it will end up with reinforced strut towers and sub frame, a better clutch, new rear diff, etc.

If anyone's interested, here are some of my recent projects. I'll try and get the old 35mm pics of the KA-T swap I did scanned and uploaded to the same site, for now it's just pictures of my dirt toys.

Welcome to the boards Mike, I'm the resident boost addict/moderator. It's always nice to have more experience on the boards. Hopefully together we can help each other. Best of luck on the projects.

No, I don't have a shop here, I discovered after six months of trying to make money doing fab work on the side that the best way to keep it as a hobby was not to try and feed myself with it.

I work out of the 3 car garage at my house. Bad part is now I have a car, I'm gonna have to make room to park it in there

I still take on projects every now and then, when I can cram them around my own stuff. Mostly cage work and other welding type projects. What do you need?

Oops, forgot to mention, I'm actually in princeton, i just listed dallas as home cause most people think princeton is a school in Massachusetts, not a suburb of dallas.

Hey man welcome to the board! As others mentioned, it is very nice to get someone on here who has a good deal of experience and can contribuite something meaningful

If you have any questions about available parts or whatever as you are planning and setting up your DIY KA-T, feel free to ask: we're a pretty friendly group here in KA-T (except WD Racing, who is actually a real whiney, generally lame person. Some might go as far as to call him a ricer...), so ask away and we'll hook ya up. Do whatever you can to answer other peoples questions as well based on your experience!

Again, welcome to the boards man. Oh haha, and Princeton Univ is in New Jersey

You know they treat you pretty well in ER. Might even give you some interesting pain killers. I think you should take him up on this offer Fiz. Ohh, and welcome foley. When I saw princeton in your thread I go so excited that somearound me is on NICO, but no (I live close to the princeton in NJ). Ohh well, still nice to have another person who knows their stuff on these boards.

welcome to the boards, hopefully we can aid in any questions you may have. sounds like u have a good resume so im sure ur questions or posts will prove valuable to the forum. Dont know what to say about that first ka-t setup u did for him but i guess we now know how dangerous a stock exhaust (or one with a stock size diameter) can be on a ka-t.

Lesson to learn: Try not to boost with a stock exhaust

Lesson #2... don't boost 15 psi with a 10:1 rising rate regulator as your "Fuel Management System"

i see. I'm actually in rockwall, 10 miles or so east of dallas. where's princeton in relation to downtown?

I was just needing some piping welded. downpipe, intercooler, and maybe exhaust.

i doubt you care for drifting, but if youre interested at least in watching/hanging out sometime, you should come to one of the texas drift events with us. they're held every other month in mineral wellshttp://texasdrift.com/

Princeton is north of downtown... Take 75 north to hwy 380 (mckinney) and head east about 8 miles... or from rockwall take FM 205 west to Hwy 78, north to farmersville, then west to princeton.

My g/f lives in rowlett and works at a clinic in rockwall. She says the drive (on the far roads) is 35-40 minutes. And since you're into performance cars and probably drive like a sane human being, you can probably shave 10 mins off that.

As for drifting, hell yeah I'm interested...just not ready to pony up cash on my car yet. I'd still go drive the wheels off of it in stock form though.

Let me know when you get ready to do your tube work. I've got capability for MIG and TIG at the house, so I can do aluminum, ss, mild steel, or even Ti if you need it done. You can either use my tools and do it yourself, or I can do it, either way.

g/f's name is roxanne, don't know the name of the clinic though. my email is [email protected]

I'm always hearing someone ask who has the hookup on powdercoating... I'll keep you in mind.
