Oh god. If you don't save that and turn her back to her beautiful glory some kid is going to get it running and keep it just like that. I saw one similar to that where I live. It was two tone flat orange and grey with only an aftermarket fascia that looked to be off a supra. With blue halos. I almost cried.

That sounds hideous. I am not sure what people are thinking when they do this to any car, even hondas. I honestly don't think he is going to sell it. Not too many people wants someone else's project, especially in an area where subies rule. People love seeing the 300zx here, basically want it, but if they have an option, they always go for the trendy subie.

The sad part, I ran into a kid that bought a wrx and blew the motor in it after just 3 weeks. Got it fixed, then blew the transmission. the next week the engine was fixed. A month after that, engine went again from him being a a dumb a** and turned up the boost to keep up with his friends STI. Asked me to look at the engine, told him he need a new engine because the #2 cylinder put a nice hole in the block. All he told me is, "eh its normal for these cars to do that, I absolutely love this car, whatever it takes to fix it". I walked away shaking my head. Is it the subies fault, no. But when you price higher performance cars in a category that kids can afford, and they think they are made of gold, you run into idiots that dont respect cars and what they are capable of.

Hell, I just sold a mint Eclipse GST to a 19 year old where his first car was a bimmer. He called me up and asked why is the car bogging at low rpms and there is no power, I had to tell him because its a 4 cyl engine, the revs need to be higher than 2k in order to produce power. He was trying to gas it in 4th gear at 20mph, that put the rpms at close to 1100. kids

I expect that kid to blow that engine in min 6 months. He already had plans for a bigger turbo.

It's truly sad when cars go this route, and honestly IMO it's tough for me to rationalize trying to save them because even a decently maintained car that gets down around the edges is hard enough to rebuild completely enough to use a lot. I have my '90 still hanging around, and the only real value has been stealing parts for the TT to save time and hassle.
The people who do these things to cars don't understand cars well, or use them well, and maintain them even less well so IMO these cars become a basket case the minute they start looking the way they do- I can't imagine the trouble of undoing these hideous kits on top of normal resuscitation costs and trouble.
We have tons of these kinds of cars around here where the kid blows it up quickly and tries to sell his POS to someone else like it's no big deal to fix it, just he's not gonna fix it, and feels like he is entitled to his investment money back as if it's still worth anything at all in the condition it is. COMPLETELY oblivious to the ideas of what value is and what makes a car cost certain amounts of money, obviously!

Went to go look at it, yeah, we are not going to attempt to fix that. The ricer kit would not have been that big of a deal. The rear end had damage just below the rear tail lights. Just going to be too much work. Might need to let that one go to the grave.

On for the lookout of a better one.

It is so sad to see another z ruined though it really makes me mad. But I guess z cars get a lot more love and passion than most other cars. Almost every 300zx I have ever seen in person is an absolute piece of crap. I keep very close track of all of them in my area and there are about a total 4 that I consider to be in nice condition and 2 in perfect condition. I hope you find a good one to fix up. When I finally buy myself one I'm going to try to buy the nicest one that I can and make her perfect as i can.

I did end up finding a decent one. It still needs a lot of work, but what are people thinking. This kid was in the "drift" scene, so he gutted the car put coilovers on it, did some stupid "quick release" front bumper(zip ties and basically a rubber band), spaced the hood up and some other random stupid crap. Got it for about 1600, runs good, but jesus, people just need to stop this crap.

I did also buy the one I posted above, it just made me sad. BUt I needed some interior parts and random things that would have cost me the same if I purchased seperately. At least I can part it out and crush the rest.

Well I'm glad you got a decent one and that you can at least put that one out of her misery. These idiots really need to stick to Hondas. The 350z is coming down in price and if it drops lower we are going to see a whole new level of riced out. Nissan did not even make that many 300zx and with all the idiot ricer ones I hope in the future more people will start treating them like the original 240z I see those everywhere and most of them are restored or are still in really beautiful shape.

I feel bad for the 240sx, very decent platform, but seem to attract the ricer crowd. Dont get me wrong Im happy the 240sx is going up in price, but only case of demand. The Z is still a superior machine and hope it will eventually stop attracting these idiot kids.
