i have had the S14 for about 6 months now. i have been fixing all the little problems with it and have barley had the chance to do any mods to it.... until now. to start off i am 16 years old and this is my 2nd car. my first car is my KLZE'd Mazda MX-6 which doesn't like to stay running for more than a week (bad distributors). my brother gave me that car with a blown engine when i was 15 so i saved up all my money and bought a new engine and trans to drop in her. i had absolutely no help on the swap. my dad had the hand tools and bought me a hoist and stand, no air tools for me . well its time to rid myself of that headache and focus on my S14. i work at discount tire and have been saving up all my money. i just got 4 FREE tires today that i threw on. tomorrow i am picking up my Stance GR+ coilovers from stance here in chicago!! i will be installing them on sunday. i have been waiting for this since i got the car, my stock struts are leaking and blown. its scary. i will be doing my own alignment at my auto school technology center of Dupage. its still hard to say what direction i am going in with this car. whether it be track/autocross/drift, i am not sure. but i want you all to know one thing, this car will NEVER be street raced or drifted. i live for the purpose of driving on a track and i value my license. well its time for some pics!!!!

when i first brought her home, she has a fresh KADE and manual swap with 80K on both engine and trans

i started off by making my own shiftboot and threw on a crap sparco shift knob i had laying around

then a swapped my headunit from my mazda in.

some wax!

a few shots along side my MX-6

i HATE orange lights, i think red looks better.

she's craving BOOST!

yay! new brakes and rotors

removed top timing chain guide only, too lazy to do the other one. it doesnt tap so I WIN!

i spoiled her with expensive products

my Mazda's Borbet rims wrapped with Falkens. if only i was 5 lug and the center bore of these rims were bigger. new rims for the 240 to come next spring

a few autocross pictures from my first time.

thats it for now! updated pictures will come tomorrow and sunday!

oh yeah hahah, someone doesnt like that girl.they painted A LOT of bad words on it to.

could anyone walk me through the steps on how to adjust the height when they are on the car? i really dont want to mess something up. when i searched i read how to do it but i got confused on which collars i need to losen and do i just rotate the whole body down?

so can anyone walk me through how to lower the coilover once its installed. from what ive read you loosen the lower perch and twist the whole shock body into the lower strut mount... is that right?

well i have megan coils so i dono if it'll help...but i'll explain it because no1 explained to me and it was a pain in the @$$ to adjust.

first of all they seem to be same as megans with 2 perch on top and 1 on bottom. what you don't want to do is touch the top 2 perch at all. doing so will mess with the spring rates and it should be preloaded from the factory. so just take the wrench and make sure they're tight and won't come loose.

ok now before you install it on the car you loosen the bottom collar and then you twist the bottom part and you will notice the coils will get shorter/longer. this is one way to adjust it but you will have to take the coils off everytime and that's impossible to do.

so when you have the coils on the car already, just loosen the bottom perch, take the wrench and twist the top perch. (either one of the 2 depending on which direction you turn, you want to use the appropriate perch for the direction you are turning so it doesn't loosen them) the WHOLE shaft should be turning. if you see the spring turning only you are doing it wrong and again tighten the top perches to make sure you aren't loosening them. so you keep turning the top perch, just make sure the whole coilover is turning when you are turning the perch and this will adjust your height. it will take a little time to get everything right, and you might have to readjust maybe a week or two later after the springs settle.

sorry for the 10 page essay which might be wrong for these coils but i hope you got the general idea. also if you want to adjust the dampening that is the thing you twist on top. let me know if you need any clarifications and good luck! watch out for those stubborn bolts you might want to keep some pb blaster next to you.

thanks thug that helped a lot. i got them all installed. i got to use air tools in a heated garage. all 4 corners are set a little higher than what i want, but thats because it started snowing here today the ONLY problem and a pretty serious one i have is this horrible continuous clunking sound when i turn. it sounds similar to this, but only when i turn and not as much

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5kLx_xeOIs

any help? i tried adjusting the tension on the spring. i tried it with the spring looser and with it tighter, both yielded the same noise. i was then going to torque the nut on top of the coilover, but the whole nut and body turned when i tried to do so. only my right front makes the noise... PLEASE HELP ME!! i do not feel safe driving like this

hmm there was a youtube clip of a guy's stance coilover describing exactly what you wrote. i forgot what the cause of it was but i think stance had such problems before. you should call stance and see what is wrong maybe they can replace it or something.

also try to search here for that i think there was a previous post about it somewhere.

Awesome. My car is identical to the OP`s car except for the rims and the exhaust, AND we have the same radio! How cool is that!

I`ve seen a lot of black 240s but as soon as I saw this one from both the front and back I was like, `that looks exactly like my car`. Then I saw the radio too and was like OMG.

I don't know if its the same sound, but my powered by max coils made the same noise.

1. I didn't have the springs set right, so they were making noise.

2. I sprayed lithium grease from the top and bottom of the pillow ball mount, and all the noises went away, this is what was recommended.

check your garage man maybe it IS ur car lol jk

yea you didn't mess with the spring rates right? the springs should be snug but should be able to spin if you give it a little force...check if its the same on all sides.

i just got back from touge factory. he was able to get the popping to quiet down. basically i just need to ride on it and break them in. it is NOTHING to worry about. stance products are great and i was very happy with their customer service. the easiest way to get rid of the annoying popping sound is to... turn up the music! im taking some pictures right now of my S14! will be on here soon

sounds like they screwed you. i would not be satisfied with even the slightest noise. even my MEGANS that you stance people dog on don't make the slightest noise or had the pillowball mount break like other people's tein/stances.

i do hope it really is nothing to worry about but even a small sound would bother me since it's not abnormal.

step 1: have the best brother in the world, have him ask his friend to use his heated garage with airtools

step 2: grit your teeth and hope the first bolt comes off smoothly. sucess

step 3: finish the fronts with no problems. lower the car, settle the tension, measure, lift it, and lower it some more

step 4: notice the crap load of front negative camber. can someone help me out on how to add some positive camber with the top camber plate, thanks!

step 5: finish the fronts. eat some pizza. start on the rears.

before:

after:

GREAT SUCESS

step 6: say good by to your leaky bouncy ****ty old stock crap

stand back and take a look. KEEP IN MIND.. this is my WINTER height. summer height to come when the snow goes away and i get new rims.

please excuse the dirty car as it is 29 degrees outside and washing a car is not an option.
