As of right now my KA is undergoing some serious beefing up. It's up at a performance shop getting the works - Ceramic coated Aries pistons dropping the compression to 8.8:1, custom crankshaft from a company in WA, port and polish, complete engine balance and blueprint, cams, rod bearings, the list goes on... After all this I am going to bolt it right back up, smog it, and save up to buy a turbo kit. Anything I should know (or watch out for) about running this kind of a set up w/o a turbo? Thanks.

You just won't have as much power..bause of the lower CP ratio...other than that it should be all good. Don't know how you need to adjust fuel/spark for it though..

what are you doing with the crank that you are getting a custom one made... and (not for sure) but you may have trouble getting it smoged for the fact that you are going to be changing alot, probley taking out the smog pump head work... but god luck... the only draw back is it is going to be slower since you are going to be lowering the comprsion till you get the turbo..other than that no

I wasn't too sure about the crank either - the Performance shop has some kind of a hook up through these guys and reccommended i get it - still up in the air though. I meet w/ them this coming Sat. so I'll be sure to ask, and decide whether it's worth the $. I want to ask lots of ?s when I'm there though, I am hoping these posts will give me some ideas.

You probably wont need a custom crank unless your going for record breaking numbers, do you have rods? Oh and you should change your username

First do what virus77 days and change your name. After that tell the shop to leave the crank alone or just have it polished and use the money you were gonna spend on that to buy some rods. That is if you are going for 350+ HP

I've read in some mags that the rods I have should be sufficient, that's also what the guy at the performanc shop said. Has anyone blown their stock rods above 350hp? Cause that's the last thing I wanna deal w/, especially if I could prevent it now.

buy rods if you take the engine apart. Did you see what happened to Fiz recently? He had about 400whp for a while on stock shotpeened rods, and they blew apart.

lol, before fiznats and virus' engine blow-ups, everyone was saying stock rods were good past 400 whp, up to 500 whp!...now it's 300...

I'll take the average and say they're good to 350 whp, so long as you don't over-rev

well, a stock block should be fine for 350-400 w./ the pistons and rods, depending on the tune. Your only concern with out a turbo, is breaking it in. Which i am a honda guy too, but not sure the differences in breaking it in w./ a nissan motor. thumbs to the set up though man!
