The Audi Club (ACNA) has rented the main track at Beaverun for a 2 day hi performance driving school on July 15/16. Owning an Audi is not required. No special mods to your car.

If you've always wanted to experience driving your car on a track, or wanted to catch free rides in some cool instructor cars, or wanted to meet a bunch of fellow enthusiasts, plus pick up some driving skills in a safe environment, this is the one of the more inexpensive ways to go.

Beaverun is a sweet 1.5 mile race track just west of Pittsburgh. Maybe 5minutes from old exit 2 on the PA turnpike. Beaverun is also home to a world class go-kart track, and a large vehicle dynamics area. Last year's Audi event had three things going on at the same time. Audi on themain track, a huge go-kart race, and a drifting event in the vehicle dynamics area. It was very intersting watching all the different things going on.

The paddock is huge and can accomodate a simultaneous mini Nico-meet.Several car clubs attend these Audi events. PCA (porsche), BMW club, also Subie, Miata club guys, always a few vettes, occasionally a few Ferrari club guys. Always a mish mosh of cars, many stock, many not stock.

At a recent Audi event at VIR, some of the interesting instructor cars included a Porsche Carrera GT (yep, the $450K one), 2 996 twin turbos, a lotus elise, a retired Busch series T-bird, a Ford V-8 powered Mercedes, 2 Cobra R's (full race setup), and one stock 350z. If the passenger seat is open, students are encouraged to ride with instructors.I caught a hot ride in that Carrera hitting about 180mph on VIR's back straight. If you're a sports car enthusiast, these schools are a must-do.

If any of you are interested, I'll attach the link. Hope to see some Nico-nauts there.

My bf and I have trekked all the way to BeaveRun once before, (for the DGtrials event) it's a gorgeous track. I was more into ogling the cars that were doing free runs on the circuit while the sun was about to set. Great stuff. Post the link!!!1

click on "events calendar for 2005"

If that link doesn't work, try

hit the chapters link, then hit Ohio Valley, then hit events

I think Audi has the entire facility on Friday (north track, vehicle dynamics area and skidpad. On Saturday, I heard the Evo Club has an autocross school in the vehicle dynamics area, while Audi is on the main track. I'm not sure if the go-kart track is booked those days. Beaverun's website might show what's going on. That place usually has more than one thing going on.

The track has a nice rythmn to it. Some good elevation changes, a very neat off camber turn, lotsa fun.

That's cool. I hope you can make it too. I'd like to finally meet you and hopefully some fellow NICOnauts.

If you can't make Beaverun, I'm likely doing Summit Point's main track 10/17-10/18 (an older 10 turn/2 mile track closer to your home).

Regards

Good question. Not full cages, but roll bars are required for convertibles only. I believe Audi uses the broomstick rule. Must be able to fit the width of a broomstick between the top of your helmet and the bottom edge of the rollbar. Most Miata owners without rollbars bypass the rule by slapping on those fiberglas hardtops.

Fred: Oh well. Think about Summit Point this fall. It's not that far from Elkton.
