Hey everyone I thought Id share this super low budget daily build with you guys. I picked up this 91 hatch with a DE swap for $700 about a year ago. I have been gathering parts to build it, it gets diy coilovers on camber plates and new shocks. Basically we tore EVERYTHING down to start from 0. Keep in mind this isnt a restoration, im just doing the best I can with the $ I have. Oh 245k on the odo when it stopped working LOL.

First things first. A 91 comes stock with a dohc ka. You just have the sohc front bumper.

2 I like where this is going. Whats your plans for the motor? Or should I say why did you take it completely apart to replace the timing chain and valve cover gasket? Was the head gasket blown? If so I hope you had a machine shop check everything before you reassemble it.

Fyi just get some lowering springs hell I think h&r cheapo springs are better then that setup. Whats stoping the entire spring assembly from rotating? If you did this to "slam" your car I hope you know those free shocks are gonna become free garbage real quick. Stock shocks and struts are not meant for being that conpressed all the time. Hell regular lowering springs are a hard on stock struts.

Ps please paint that ghhhaayy pink s***. Hell ill pay pal you 7$ for 2 cans of black paint if I have to. Fix that s***.

Good work on attacking the right spots first most young guys with there first 240 are like "it doesnt run but look at them s14 seats thooooo" keep up the good work man. I like where this is going. Not every "build thread" has to be high dollar. Lets see what ingenuity and thought process can do. But for real paint the stupid pink s*** and text the previous owner a picture of some tits or something to snap him out of whatever it is that made him do it

Ps I really like that hammered tan color. A valve cover would look sick like that. I wonder how well it would hold up to heat. I assume its not like regular rustoleum because that usually starts to flake and chip after being heated up just past 100* a few times. Are you painting the whole engine bay like that? Id like to see what that looks like.

Thanks man :) the springs are held in place by a set of screws and lock tite. Anyways once i raise them they shouldnt be too compressed and only provide around 1" of lowering which is what I wanted. The car originally had some purple springs when I bought jt and boy it was slammed. I bottomed it out several times on the highway. The engine was taken apart because im totally anal lol. Yes the machine shop verified the head. As far as the gasket, it had a cometic one installed. After it runs NA I will start collecting the turbo parts for a cheap t25 8psi build good for daily.
The rustoeum hammered is tough as nails, the entire car will be sprayed with this and some enamel hardener.

Looking good man. Keep up the good work. Why construction adhesive in the subframe inserts tho?

Its what I use te reinforce all the bushings. Its a strong polyurethane which driea solid. I used it in the motor and transmission mounts too. Its a cheap alternative to window weld plus some of my subframe bushings were totally sepperated.

I wonder if that adhesive would make those mounts feel like actually having solids. If so then your going to have a very shakey and rough DD on your hands.

Btw how did you get those poly bushings into all the arms? I had one hell of a time doing it. My friend ended up making his own little tool for getting them in (without cutting them in half.... It was a lot of fun. So much fun ill never do it again.

We did cut them in half LOL :gapteeth: and inserted them with the poly adhesive to fill in the gaps and make them stick :) I did my track camaro un subaru this way with no issues. And yes, the inserts feel solid but I dont mind shaky. My main concern for a daily is AC and reliability, im still young enough to tolerate a rough ride.

Anyways, todays update:

lol youll mind shaky when your steering wheel keeps coming loose (happens to me).

hmm good job on the polys..

What are you going to do for interior, stripped of full?

This is a heck of a lot of trouble your going through just for a DD but thats just my opinion. I sure hope you at least drift it every now and then lol

If this is daily where os your speedo? I would much rather have a speedo on the road then a volt gauge.

I couldnt source a working speed sensor locally and Im not gonna pay $150 for a new one. So I figured id rather pay $60 for a gps.

I like somethings and I don't like some things. Keep up the work. I think the gauge cluster looks nice, and you don't need a speedo, but I would have a tach. If you get a giant tach I hope you hurt yourself. Get an autometer tach. Learn how fast you are going in what gear at what RPM and boom, speedo.
