1990-92 Nissan Stanza: Reliability

Trouble Spots

Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Engine misfire: Rough running, poor fuel economy, or poor power may be caused by clogged intake manifold runners allowing excessive EGR flow to some cylinders. (1990-92)

Engine stalling: Contaminated transmission fluid causes the torque-converter clutch to stay engaged, which causes stalling when slowing to a stop. (1991)

Paint/body: The rear fenders tend to rust out in the area of the fuel-filler door. (1990-92)

Vehicle shake: Cars with a manual transmission my shake or vibrate as the clutch is engaged due to a problem with the clutch-release lever, while a bad transmission front bearing results in a growling noise. (1990-92)

-The only bad thing is that the Stanza has the KA24E engine. The KA24E is a SOHC, SMPI, 12 valve, Inline 4. the SOHC and 12 valves are the bad things. as far modding, im not sure. that best would be to go as JDM as possible. you wouldnt turbo that engine, but i have heard of a guy that was going to do an AWD setup, i should check up on him.

Drop a front drive SR20DET and a 5speed Nismo Suspension and take it to the track and make some old guy wet himself. That would be badass

Nice Car!

Oh and the Stanza looks like it's in decent shape body wise. Any real damage?

I hope for your sake you don't need a new starter. I work for Nissan and I can tell you they are a pain in the nuts.

beatupstanza-If you are going to make it a drag car, look around the car for ways to lighten up the car. I am sure it is already a light car, but making it even light will be a no cost benifit.
