Last night we had a decent sized ice/sleet storm here in charlotte. I'm currently working at the Charlotte Douglass International Airport fueling aircraft. I mostly fuel the little express jets (AKA regional jets) so I drive around in a Freightliner 4700 with a 3000 gallon tank full of Jet A (jet fuel). Let me tell you guys something. You've never drifted untill you've thrown a truck with 20,000 pounds of jet fuel sideways at 35 miles per hour. It was quite fun doing this with my friend untill I was driving behind him as he was drifting with half-full cargo tank and the fuel sloshed (royaly screwing the weight and balance) around and made the inside wheel come off the ground! Definatly a good day at work if you ask me.

Don't worry, its not highly combustable. I see those folks smoke near the trucks all the time.

It pleases me to no end to know this crack squad of savvy motivated personnel fuels the planes I ride in :) Try not to blow up anything man, they'd think you were a terrorlst!

Don't act like you've never had a little irresponsible fun at work. We've all done it. Some just do it on a grander scale.... with things like... jet fuel :rolleyes

Fun is strictly forbidden at my work :( Actually...I work in a cubicle, it's a desk job...there really ISN'T much room for fun other than surfing NICO when nobody is around.

Ahhh, the wacky world of aviation. I miss it. Jet fuel has a very high flash point. You can throw a lit match into a bucket of JP-5 and it'll put the match out. It scares the hell outta newbies though. :D

Hey charlotte 240-

Do you drive a red or black rms13?

About a month ago did you talk to a guy, who was mowing leaves, about a door leaning against a light pole right near your house?

Did you ever go back and get them?

That was me, and I finally got mine running.

well not to be out done by charlotte240, i decided to do a little driftin myself. it snowed some here and it got sorta ice so i decided to road test the MB-2 that i was working on. this thing is a 54,000 pound aircraft towing truck...and i had it going sideways around the corners in the shop compound. man you haven't experienced drifting till you've tried it in a 27 ton machine ;o)

I stick with fork lift races at home depot at night. When I get done unloading flat bed trucks I have to do victory dounuts in the snow/ice. An 8 ton fork lift with smooth tires drift pretty good with a full load on concrete. Accually I found this out on accident and scared the crap out of myself. Came inside to fast on concrete with wet smooth surface tires in a 16,000lbs forklift. Nick

Yeah I used to drive an ancient fork truck at an old job... It was OLD i think it was a Model T forklift. Anyway, once I had a load about 100-200 lbs over its capacity and when I went to lift about 8 feet up, the fork truck was teetering on its front wheels a little. That was some scurry 5h!t.
