definitely not there in 4th. don't notice it in 2nd.have noticed it in 3rd before, but today was worse. need to try some of the usual things like A/C on vs. off, BUt i'm most curious on if the active pump could be exciting this mode.

It's your transmission mount:

Are you in neutral or under power on flat terrain?

also does it in park. I wouldn't have guessed based on park, but after reading the link above from 96Q, I am thinking its the trans mount.just ordered one of them too. $82.xx

did the mount today. i could tell when i put 'em side--side that the old one had sagged even though not cracked much.definitely improved, but not perfect.some vibe right around 2100 in park still.exhaust hangers---those would be the l-brackets with the rubber pucks that [sorta] attach to the trans mount?? mine are not brittle [good flex].

engine mounts? i get about 1/2 inch +/- on drivers side with a half throttle powerbrake.

There are probably at least half a dozen exhaust hangers (rubber pucks), starting from near the transmission mount, running back to the muffler. Kind of odd, they're so similar yet not all the same. Some have sleeves, some don't. Different part numbers as I recall.I think Dennis once posted 1" movement, but that may have been worst case--totally shot. If they're original I would replace them--11 years old!My engine mounts were compressed so much that I couldn't get the steering rack out--not even close. But when I supported the engine and let the crossmember hang free overnight, the mounts sagged enough to give easy clearance for the rack. New mounts are in house, but many things aren't. Joe's going to be paying for a lot of shipping this month before the 20th!

thanks, Robert. It's enough better that I'm nore focused on fixing a few other things before trying to perfect this one. But, since it seems you have experience with the engine mounts......how big a challenge? casual reading of posts seems like it's a real pain. does the a/c comp have to be repositioned? p/s&active pump?

I can't give any feedback for replacing the mounts with the engine in the car, except that the nuts above the mounts are the biggest challenge. I'm thinking you *may* have to remove the manifolds, and I haven't done that either. Maybe not. The nuts are about 3-4" below the manifolds, but more or less centered between the 2 middle exhaust ports. Before you do anything else, make sure you can thread a socket down there with a ujoint or wobble extension and get the top nuts off.

I'm thinking of this same stuff - I've also got a vibration in neutral.

MMs are most likely suspect. Maybe we should have a "motor mount party" .

Although I might as well do the rack at the same time...
