No, if the crank is ground down, you need to use oversize bearings to make up for the area ground off. Just ask the machine shop exactly what you need and they will tell you.Vetal wrote:Then please help me a bit more with those sizes...I was told that crank out-of-roundness is 0.04mm, so they need to grind it. In that case I need undersized bearings, right?
I plastigauge all my bearings even after it comes from the machine shop ,cause the clearance on the new bearings they give may still be off.. If you dont know what plastigauge is here is a link http://www.plastigauge.com/ also it is under $5.00 to buyc-rad wrote:

Print out the EM section of the FSM....drop it off to them and say, "Get me the right stuff and make it fit". Make sure to get a printout of before and after for what they do. Also, make sure you are taking it to a shop that has experience with 4cyl import motors. A lot of the redneck shops that normally work on big V8s, don't have micrometers that read to the ten thousandth place as the tolerances are much more forgiving in the V8 motors as long as you keep them full of oil. But yeah, drop off the engine section of the FSM and have them get you the right stuff.Vetal wrote:If so, how do they know how much to grind away and what diameter to go for? I'm sure if I don't check it the shop would grind the crank so clearances would be anywhere between 0.001-0.500mm... So what do I have to tell them?Thanx!
Advance Auto Parts (same thing) has a site you can order from... http://www.advanceautoparts.comVetal wrote:Maybe they have a site?
Dude before you go out and buy bearings you'll need to PLASTIGAUGE clearance between the rod and main bearings to the crank then measure the smashed PLASTIGAUGE, and that'll tell you what size bearings you'll need...Like i said before when i rebuild engines i always measure bearing clearance from just rolling bearing in the rods (cheap easy fix) or even when the machine shop did their thing i still double check bearing clearance cause they still could give you the wrong size bearings... Here is a HOW IT WORKS LINK http://www.plastigauge.co.uk/howitworks.htmVetal wrote:Please tell me which of these .25mm main bearings do I need?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...91405a ... ..30541The sellers says the following:"The 1565's have an overlength flange, do you want that or check out MS2073. That one is a standard length flange."
