bearing making noise; which is cheaper....

okay, the transmission is going out on my 91 240. i know there is a bearing making noise in the transmission and i know it isn't the throw-out bearing or the pilot bearing. what i was wondering is wheather it would be cheaper to replace the transmission or pay someone to fix it (8-12 hours of labor plus parts). Another Q: will the trasmission off the SR20 fit the Ka24? if so, it'll help with the shopping options. (i think...)
