I'm just wondering what people are running for clearances on race engines. Building a car that will NEVER see the street and driven pretty hard. We are looking at about 400 crank HP and just wanted to see what people run.

Stock recommended range is pretty damn tight. However, FSM does give you the limit on the maximum allowable clearance. Try to stay between the max limit and the outer range of recommended limit.

That is what I did. FSM recommends .0002~.0009 inches w. .0020 as the max limit and I set mine at .0012. So somewhere between .0009~.0020. Ive been running like this for over 1.5 years. No problem w/ the bottom end.

OK. I put in a set of ACL bearings and things came out at .0015 on some and .0020 on most. I was thinking of just bringing the .0020's up to .0015 and that should be fine? Does anyone know what grade the ACL bearings are equivalent to and/or which grade would bring me to .0015?

Just got some info from ACL and the thicknesses that they have for their bearings are 1.975 for the s13 sr20 (pn 5M2964H) and 1.980 for the gtir sr20 (pn 5M2975H).

0 0.0778-0.0780 1.977-1.980 Black1 0.0780-0.0781 1.980-1.983 Brown2 0.0781-0.0782 1.983-1.986 Green3 0.0782-0.0783 1.986-1.989 Yellow4 0.0783-0.0784 1.989-1.992 Blue5 0.0784-0.0785 1.992-1.995 Pink6 0.0785-0.0787 1.995-1.998 No Color

So it's no wonder that I ended up with .0015-.0020 clearances in our engine since they are smaler than the smallest factory bearings.
