To give a little back story I have a 2013 g37 sedan. Had the infamous sunroof leak on the passenger side and replaced the grommet on the fire wall thinking it fixed the issue. A year goes by issues that was intermittent: turn signal stop working, wipers stopped working, hazard stopped working and alarm randomly going off. so i checked and noticed the pass floor is wet and can see water on the bcm, so i removed the water and completely dry the passenger side and bcm. I let the car dry for a week and followed some suggestions on this forum to run sun roof drain with new hose and tap into the ac drip line in the floorboard. I did this a few months ago and with all the Florida summer rain I have had no water enter the vehicle on either passenger and driver side. well about 3 weeks ago my vehicle parked in the garage off my phone was connecting to the cars Bluetooth and noticed the info screen/radio was on while the car was off and not in accessory mode. turn on and off the car to turn the screen off. The next morning radio was on and i couldnt turn off the car or turn it on. I unplugged the battery searched on here and removed #19 fuse(audio/mirror) on the driver side fuse panel and charged the battery back. I left it for two days put the fuse back in and back to normal until a week later notice my phone connecting to the car Bluetooth and the screen is off and the battery was drained. so clearly something is staying on in the car causing the battery to drain.

So with all these issues and knowing the bcm did get wet prior I'm thinking i need to replace the BCM. So I have the following questions:

1) I'm looking to replace my bcm part number 284B1-1NC7C with a new one. I was able to find a new one at a Nissan dealership locally for less then $500. As long its the same part number it shouldn't matter coming from the Nissan dealer correct ?

2) my understanding the keys need to be programmed to the new BCM. Is that the only thing that needs to be programmed to the BCM ? I found a local mobile locksmith who confirmed they can program the key fobs to the new BCM, since i can put the new BCM in myself.

Any other suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated.

1) Correct. Same part number, same part. That's true across the Nissan/Infiniti line.
2) The FSM only calls for key registration, no other ops. Disconnect battery negative before you start and tuck or tape the terminal so it can't contact the post. Accidental powerup when partially-connected can be disastrous.

Thank you for the quick reply and for the tip. Trying to resolve the issues without going to the dealership and spending a lot more money.

Providing an update. I purchased a brand new BCM from Nissan dealership with the same part number. I installed the new BCM and had a lock smith come out to program the key fobs to it. Well they were able to get one key fob to program but the car wouldn't start. you here it click but nothing and the key fob opens and locks the doors. I then realize on the dash its telling you to push the clutch in well its an automatic. after a lot of searching it seems the BCM type id need to be change for an Automatic. needing to see if anyway i can do it or what is the best course of action.

If they need configuration then they won't start until they're configured. Weird that the FSM doesn't specify it, but I just checked the parts dbase and it does list a BCM type-ID. That pretty much guarantees that it needs one. I'm disappointed, the FSM's are usually very thorough about that stuff.

any recommendations on any tool scans that can access the bcm and may give access to the type ID.

I don't know of anything but the Consult, I'm a dealer tech. I'm pretty sure anything capable will be pricey. Uploading the config is no more than half an hour's work even when you need to guess at some of the items (which they may, usually you save the config before replacement and restore it after), but you might need to get it to the dealer and pay them an hour.

I can't tell you how much it aggravates me when they make mistakes or omissions like that in the FSM's. Check out BCS-3, the only thing it specifies is initialization per the Consult op manual, and that deals with NATS/NVIS. Nothing at all about a Type ID. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I appreciate the info and I also read the FSM on the BCM and didn't see anything mentioned about type ID and it needing to be set.

So I disconnected the battery and removed the new bcm and put the old BCM in and the car recognizes both key fobs and when I go to start it cranks but now won't start. I will get a scanner from a friend to see if any codes are coming up. I don't know what would cause the vehicle not to start with the old BCM when it started prior.

On most Nissans, once you program the fobs to a different BCM they won't work with the original. Are you getting a solid red security lamp?

So I am able to lock and unlock the vehicle with both key fobs. When I get in the car the red security light for the key flashes and when I go to start it tries to crank and the red security light stays on. I ran a diagnostic scan and a list of codes:

P1610 is a lockout code, you get that with practically any security condition (and the solid red sec lamp means you definitely have one). P1611 means the ECM isn't recognizing the key ID, which means the BCM and ECM aren't on the same page. Whatever the smithy did, it got the fob ID's programmed correctly into the BCM but not the ECM.

VStar650CL , thanks for the help and insight. I had the vehicle towed to the Infiniti dealership yesterday and the programmed the BCM with correct type ID and with both key fobs. Wasn't to expensive thankfully. The car is up and running.

You're most welcome. Most dealers only charge half an hour for key programming, which isn't out of hand when you consider that an up-to-date Consult3+ with all the trimmings is a $6K package, and then it can take 10 labor minutes just to hook up the hideously-slow thing and get a read on the car. Half an hour is $65~75 at going rates, but when you consider how often smithies screw things up using generic software these days, it really isn't unreasonable.
