The dealer will have to perform the following after replacing the BCM and no it's not VIN specific.

backup you existing BCM settings
replace BCM
write saved settings to new BCM
Register I-Keys
Register Fobs
Complete TPMS registration

Alldata rates the work effort at 0.6 hours and the bcm module is around $450. You can tell them the national average amount of time for someone of appropriate skill can complete this task in 0.6 hours. The hourly rate is usually about 100 so they should only be charging you 510 complete. If you find a used bcm then only 60 labour.

It pays to have a good mechanic that knows cars. Nissan overcharges but they know where to go and what part is needed. A 3rd party mechanic may charge less in labour but you could be his guinea pig.

BCM = Body Control Module.

I replaced mine last time. Since the bcm is tied to the ecu which has the key chip info, you can't just swap it out drive to the dealership and have them program it.

Last time mine busted. I bought a used bcm, removed the panels and pretty much had the bcm connected but easily swapped. Then I drove to the dealership, and worked w/ the service department to let me park in front of their garage while i swapped the bcm and they reprogrammed it. It cost i believe 80 dollars.
