(
sparing all the reaons for the question)

Do stock springs bind with the BS Stage 3 cams? If so what is the compressed spring height needed?

thnx

Why don't you contact Brian Crower, but you have already done that, right? So what did they Crower say?

I would assume they would stress with the increased lift and duration. Call BC

Ok, I found the info I needed. Forgot about posting this. Sharing with other if anyone is interested....

Apparently the factory springs bind at 0.38" and more of lift. By the looks of the lift/duration spring strength doesnt seam to be the issue. So I am going to use factory springs from another vehicle and see how they work. Will be a while but I will post what I used when I get that far.

Going in an 84 Nissan ST. Using the KA24DE out of a 94 240SX. Megasquirt ECU and Turbo'd.

They didnt seam to know at what height the stock springs bind. I also got two different reasons...spring strenght was one and spring height was another.

These cams definately can run on stock seat pressure but when I meqasure a 0.4 lift on an old head they bind at about 0.39"..so close.. Machining the head or using springs from another vehicle. Seat pressure might be too low with machining but I will have to test that. I read someplace B series springs work, so I am going to measure one and see. I wouldnt be surprised if they did but then again I wouldnt be surprised if they dont.

Well, obviously they didnt answer my question. Obviously you cant either.

Thnx for wasting my time,

:) Merry Christmas.
I dont think its a binding issue, its the increased pressure caused by the extended lift over a longer duration. The springs fatigue and this is how valves float. The website even suggest using kit BC0210. So at what rate they bind or fatigue, no idea. But when a MFGR requires use of new springs, do it. Maybe check other springs as well.

It is a binding problem. I ended up measuring the max lift and the springs bind at around 0.39" of lift.

out to win is correct man...i run BC 272's..you need the duel spring set up with them from BC or you will get valve float..allso..with the duel spring set up..you will be able to rev higher for longer with out floating the valves...take the advice..buy the duel spring kit and do it rite the first time..good luck
