Did they say don't use synthetic at all or just not with their cams.

That makes absolutely no sence. I'd stick w/ the purple! I was the store mgr for jiffylube for 5 years and from all the classes ive taken from numerous vendors, have learned that the only engines that you can't use synthetic is rx7 and rx8. I would go into details but my explanation would be quite lengthy. Just stick with the purple!

i told the guy, i wanted to know if any break-in time was needed. he said no. and then said, remember, use petroleum based oils- no synthetics...which is all the SR has had...i dont see why using a better oil would be bad for the BC cams....does anyone else run purple and BC camS?

Dunno I got tomei cams. I don't think that sr knew what he was talking about. The only reason ive ever heard not to use synthetic is with a rotory because its squarts oil in the comb. Chamber and sun. Is too slippery and engine gets more blowby and looses power. That's per manufacturer! I'd call and talk to someone different. The only thing I can think of is if there is an additive that would somehow react with the metal...highly unlikely.

If you started running synthetic, you risk engine failure if switching back to petroleum.

where do they get all this info from....its bs man...ive run the BC stage 3 cams 272's for well over 2 years with royal...there is no side effect what so ever...and switching back to normal oil...ive never ever seen or witnessed an engine failure due to oil..wtf....these are urban legends that still float around..the crap slung on forums these days.

Amen to that liquid_cool. I don't know why he would say no to syn. oil. I have heard that some cam companies want certain oils for break in. I think comp cams even sell their on break in oil. After the break in period then switch to syn oil. I think the oil companies have removed some of the sulfur in the oil base stock that helped break in.
