So I was talking to this guy yesterday and he told me something I've never heard before and I'm pretty sure is not true. He says that ball bearing turbos have to be rebuilt every 3000-4000 miles because the bearings get fried or something to that effect. I'm pretty sure this is not true at all, because it seems to me that if anything, a BB turbo would last LONGER because of reduced friction. Anyone know for certain??

So my turbo needs a MAJOR service overhaul with every oil change? Smack that idiot that told you that for me, 'cause he ain't sharin' the drugs he's obviously on. BB turbos survive much more thrust loading and can withstand more back-winding than traditional solid bearings can, increasing their service interval. Why would you so much more for a turbo that went out so often? Sounds like horse $hit to me.John

That's pretty much what I thought. The guy seemed pretty shady though, he was also trying to sell me a wrecked 240 and claimed he paid $1600 for a NON ball bearing turbo. Just wanted to make sure though.
