i finished up my ka-t install and its running. it idles ok but when i just give it a little gas it sounds like there are BB'S in the head. i think its knocking but i need to make sure. there is old gas in there and i am not sure if i used premium or not so i was just letting it idle to burn out the old fuel so i can put some fresh stuff in. another thing i wanted to know is, when i pinch the hose for the IACV the idle drop down to about 700rpm's which is good. if i dont have it pinched it will just idle at 1300 rpm's even when its completely heated up. is there something wrong with my IACV? and does anyone have a part# for a new one? this is all on a ka24e BTW.

your aicv is broken... mine idled at 1300+ until i eliminated the aicv... they are too expensive to justify replacing it, if i remember correctly. just eliminate it, because you don't need it anyway... it's just for fast warm up, and if you're like most people on the road who don't warm up their cars before driving then it wont matter anyway.... but if in fact you do warm up your car then it'll just increase warm up time by like a minute or two.

haha if you want to speed up warm up then just get a screw driver and adjust the idle until the car is warmed up and then back it out agian... lol.

ok so your saying just remove the 4 -10MM bolts that hold the IACV in and just cover it up with a piece of metal and some rtv sealent? do you have a pic of yours blocked off and will it throw a code if its gone?

this is what we are talking about correct?

well i have a dohc, so it's a little different but you having a sohc makes it 10000000x easier, because you dont have to rip off the manifold to do it. it won't throw codes for the aicv being gone. if you're afraid that it will just try disconnecting it (unplug it) and start the car and drive it a bit and see what happens.

basically i left the actual aicv in place after the install, but what i did was cut a piece of sheet metal (doesn't have to be thick at all) and drilled holes for it to fit right under the aicv. then i sealed it with some silicon, and that was it. i cleaned it up a bit so i wouldn't get stabbed by sheet metal.

about the bb sound... umm well knocking is destinct sound, to me it always sounds about the same car to car.... but old gas should not cause that unless you're boosting or something like that... i mean just rolling off the line you cn have horribly low grade gas and it won't knock until it's under heavy load (like going up a hill in 3rd gear and having the revs low will cause knocking with lower grade gas but you can do it all day long with better grades...

it mayt be something on the exhaust rattling... a lot of times rattling or squeeking sounds seem like they're coming from then engine bay but they aren't... i heard this chatter the other day and i popped the hood and revved the engine and i swear it was coming from the turbo, but i know it's something on the exhaust... just make sure you know where it's coming from. i don't know about the timing chain guides... they tend to make noise a lot on dohc, but i don't know about sohc... you'll have to ask someone else that has one. i never noticed my sohc (when i had one a long time ago) doing that...
