Norcal guys: where did you get your swaps done? How much did it cost? How good of a job did they do?

Basically Im getting ready to do it and Im actually willing to pay more but to just make sure that the shop does a GOOD job. I talked to a guy at Blacktrax in Milpitas. He seemed to know his **** and sounded like he did some quality work. I dont remember how much he quoted me but I think it was $800-1000 for the install. Sound right?

Thanks a lot I appreciate it.

You do relize once you get a swap, your car is gonna be damn near impossible to register... and you probably won't be able to drive it on the street without cop problems.

You can do it at home. It'll cost you for the ECU harness, but send that to heavy throttle, they'll do a good job. The rest of it is pretty straight forward...like a big bolt on. Just make sure you've got all the parts. I've seen too many motor sets missing igniters, I'd go with a complete clip, but check the important stuff (compression, leakdown, all the necessary parts, smic, igniter, ecu, uncut harness, etc...)

Yeah I know. But considering that smog is only once every two years, I'll probably move on to something else by the time it comes to smogging it for a second time. As far as cops being a problem... how are they going to find out. I dont speed that much and even if they do pull me over they cant pop my hood for no reason... and even if they succeed in popping the hood how many cops really know the difference between an sr and a ka?

not many, but more and more realize that most cars dont have cool engines in america, norcal, maybe even cali's best shop is in sacramento, called motorsport dynamics 916.648.8000, as soon as u hear the lady's voice, push 0 and youll get a person, they do the best swaps, but they take ur car for about a month and u have to wait as they are pretty jammed, they could prolly take ur car in august if u called em now. i cant be w/o a car for a month so thats why im doing my own swap, that install quote seems about right though, but u could get a full front clip for 2 g's....

Yeah my problem is that I need it done fast. I would do it myself but I have basically no time and no place to do it. The guy at this shop said he could have it done in 5 days which would be perfect for me. Im hopeing that I can get everything done asap.

Actually I found a friend who knows what he's doing. So looks like I'll be able to get my swap done for virtually free :) Also found a hook up on an engine. All thats left is to be able to find the car itself :pface
