Quick question: Has anyone ever adjusted the bands on the G50's trannies? If so which ones are which. I noticed (on the LH side) 3 square-head bolts. What do they adjust? THere is also another bolt a few inches away (rearward) with still another bolt [w/ an allen pattern in it] just above that. If any of these correspond to band adjusts, then which direction are they to be turned, how many turns are needed and which ones get turned to minimize slippage? No live 'expert' in Phoenix seems to know anything about them and give me just a straight answer [as if it would incriminate them if they really did] w/o them trying to suggest to me that the whole thing needed a $3500 replacement, which actually is out of the question right now. Fluid is good. Shifts rather well on the road. There is just some noticeable delay when shifting from P to D. My Grand Cherokee had a similar issue back in the day. The bands were adjusted, and it did well after that.

I would like to know this, as well. Same symptoms on Layla.

there is only one band. the 3 square heads you see are ports for the band servo to either engage band [2nd], release band [3rd], or engage band [4th].

i have not adjusted the band. the band adjust would be on top of the case vertically up/down with the trans in the car. fsm has band adjust procedure.

i can't reason a way that the band would affect your N-->D delay.

Let me just clarify: My idea is that this one band, as you have stated, is slipping against the wall of the body that houses the gears. My theory is that it needs to be adjusted to put a little more pressure against the wall, thus eliminating more of this slippage. Currently, a few more rpm's are given when the D position is selected, the band is not fully engaging. There is enough 'grip' or engagement to engage part of the planetary gears but not quite enough for it to happen instantaneously. Once enough momentum is created from the more rapid rotation, more 'grip' is created and the car moves forward in a very soft manner. As I mentioned before, the car shifts fine otherwise. This was the only issue.

Have you tried some Lucas transmission fix. I know that nothing other than Lubeguard is recommended on this site but I don't see how it could hurt and it has a pretty good rep.
