I started experiencing problems with my battery not charging. I have a 97 s14 btw. My mechanic thought it was the alternator so we installed a new alternator. Everything was good for about 2 days and then went back to the same problem. I'm not sure what the problem could be. I'm going to replace the alternator again and then see what happens. Any input and ideas would be helpful to help me solve this problem.

Check all the grounds to the engine and chassie. Check the battery connections and the fusable links. Also if you are using a aftermarket supplier of alternators you may have to go through 2-3 alt. to get a good one.

NUMBER ONE RULE: You never change an alternator without installing a new battery because the weak battery may DESTROY a reman alternator trying to recharge the battery!

73% of defective [in the first week] reman alternators were traced to bad installtion practices.

Anybody who tries to keep a average battery longer than 36 months is just asking for it!

Alternators are not designed to recharge totally exhausted batteries they are designed to work with charged batteries to maintain the charge.

That's true, it's like summoning the dead, it can be true, in a fairy tail stories, but this is real life. Change the battery first just like Q45 just said. Let us know the result.
