Ok so I have an issue. I got off work today, went to start my car and there was nothing, no lights, nothing. So i figured i mustve left a light on or something. So i boost it, get home, turn it off and it wont start again, same thing, no lights. So i was thinking "im a dumbass i shouldve left it idle forawhile to let the battery charge."

So we boost it again, let it idle for a bit then realize that theres almost no gas, so i was about to leave to get gas then it quit on me at the end of the driveway. So we boost it AGAIN. pull it into the garage and now im charging the battery with this motomaster thing. Does anyone know what my problem is? we filled it with a little gas when it was running. Could it be my alternators shot? Its got 135000 kms, 90 000 miles? So yes its charging for the night but im gonna need to have it runnin for tomorrow. Anybody have a diagnoses?

So let me get this straight.... You didn't have any battery power and then you charged it. It charged up alright but keeps going dead? Is that right?

yeah just find someone with a volt meter or go buy a 5 dollar one at harbor frieght get car running and put it on the battery and if its not damn close to 14.4 volts your alternator is dead

see your in canada probly no harbor junk up there its cheap tool outlet store.

or just start the car let it idle and unhook the battery if it dies its your alternator.

I'm leaning toward the Alternator being bad. Good advice about the voltmeter check.

History: Back around the year 2004 I left from the house and got about two miles down the road to the red light and my entire car just went dead. I immediately hit the Hazard switch, but the car was literally dead. Absolutely nothing on the car worked, nothing! I was freaked out to say the least. It stayed dead for about a minute and then it just powered up again. Of course I had to start it up again, but all the electrical stuff came back up like the radio, clock, headlights, dash lights, etc. Weird, huh? I never did figure out what happened? Maybe the ECU reset itself?

Ok i started it up. It started fine after i took the charger off. Unhooked the battery on both positive and negative and it still ran. So I dont have an alternator problem. Maybe a s***ty batteryÉ

Thats a weird story. I have a similiar one. I unhooked my sub and didnt wrap the wire in electrical tape, took it around the block and it died on me. diagnosed it with a buddy, blown fuse from the sub wireing. scared the crap out of me but only cost me about 3 dollars to fix.

Sounds like maybe a bad ground? If you can move the cable with your hand it needs to be tighter.I also see some corrosion on the battery terminals try cleaning them up with a wire brush and stick them back on.Could also be a bad battery could be time to replace....Alternator test "lilpiton" suggested does work too.Good luck with the problem.

Are your battery terminals clean and tight? If you replace your battery I would go with an Interstate Battery or a Premium Die Hard from Sears, IMO. They both have been great for me.

If your car died while driving the your problem is your alternator

Use a wire brush to clean them up. I would take the positive and negative lines off of the terminals and clean them up really good making them as silver in color as you can and then hook it all back up tight until you can get a new battery and/or terminal clamps.

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be my battery terminal clamps... They were clean on the outside, rusty on the inner part where the clamps makes contact with the battery terminal. I sanded them down and it fixed the problem. I spent a whole day trying to figure this out and I even went out to buy a new alternator and started because the car stopped cranking after a while. Hope this helps you.

hope it's just a simple alternator or battery problem.

but i really think it's from the horrendous wheels that's causing the problem.

Make sure your cables are in good condition and TIGHT on the terminals. There's also some "lube" if you will that'll keep your battery from corroding.

It just sounds like you have a dead battery. No biggie.

Ok sorry about that. So ya today i will clean my battery terminals then I might go out and buy a new battery some time soon. Is there any signs that should tell me that i need a new battery. like an expiry date haha. I dont know i just dont want to go out and buy a new battery if i dont have to. I have to put my money into other things on the car right now

Everyone basically said what was in the first few posts.... Auto parts stores around here check your battery for FREE. Check if any parts stores around you do the same thing. They also check the alternator for free.

I just had the same issue...My car mysteriously stopped working and I thought I left the dome light on or something. Jumped it and drove a while and it was doing the same. The battery read that it had 12 or volts available it had a low charge. Come to find out the battery was just not accepting a charge after taking it to Adv. Auto Parts. Bought a new battery and now Im A.O.K.

P.S.-this was all like last week

Ive used optimas for years. IMO they are the best. No maintenance and they stand behind their product. Ive never had a problem with them. I even bought a used one and they warrantied it and gave me a new one.
