Well long story short, my car wouldn't start one day and it was during a hectic week for me so i didn't have adequate time to check out what was wrong. I tinkered under the hood for a bit and couldn't find anything. So i left it in front of my house till i had time to check it out thoroughly.

Eventually (almost a week later) I was forced to push the car into the garage because i got a parking ticket for my tints. After pushing it into the garage I wanted to recharge my battery which is located in my trunk and when i opened it, there it was tipped over with acid all over the trunk.

In the end I learned that battery acid isn't all too bad. There wasn't any visual damage in the back except for some corrosion on the battery connections and a ruined pair of pants. Although, is there a possibility that over time the acid will do its worst damage? We cleaned out the trunk pretty thoroughly with dry and damp towels.

As long as all the acid is removed/neutralized, it will be fine. Water may not remove it completey depending on the mineral content (think ions). I'd probably dissolve liberal amount of baking soda in some water then use that water to clean the surfaces. this should almost ensure any acid left on the surface is gone. There's a good chance you're safe now, but it might pay to be safe than sorry...

Tomek,

I can bring by some C4, I'm sure a lil boom in the trunk will get rid of all the acid problems you have ...

USe some baking soda+water on it or over time it will eat through. Even if it only removes a layer of paint or top coat acid opens the door for rust, especially if you live in a humid climate.

haha, don't feel to bad, i had the same thing happen to me in my coupe on my way to go and get my vert! The battery still works perfect, and my trunk is still fine! Just hit that **** with some baking soda.

but be sure to get it off you or your clothes! That **** is dangerous. My father had a friend who spilled some on his crotch area when he was carrying a battery somewhere, didn't think of it much and the next day he was in the hospital in a near death situation! Needless to say, he lost his testicles and damaged other tools, along with nearly dieing due to the acid in his blood system.

btw the hatch is running beautiful now shes being taken care of!

thanks for the advice everybody. we were pretty thorough with the cleaning but just to make sure I'm definitely going to go over the trunk with the baking soda and water mixture. Also looks like ill be getting hooked up with a gel-cap battery so I won't have to worry about this happening again 8)

yea I got some acid on my fingers picking up the battery and I bolted to the bathroom to get it cleaned off. Even after I washed my hands I could still feel it a little, but fingers are fine now.

I'm glad to hear that the hatch is doing good and is in good hands. I still feel like **** for what I did to that engine. Have any pictures?

Ouch!!! Got to be a better hair removal system than that! How about we make sure our batteries are secured?I had a toolbox come through the rear seat in an accident so I know the danger of flying debris.

I thought I had it bad when a battery tipped over in my boat and ate a hole in the bottom but "he lost his testicles and damaged other tools”, that takes the cake. I don’t think I'll ever look at a battery the same again...

only during surgery.

Haven't had a chance to get to bodywork yet, everything got kind of messed up when i had a deer hit me. And of course the deer had no ID or insurance card, so it was all on me.

haha!

First i thought waterpump...replaced that and it still overheated...but the water pump was DEFIANTLY shot, the seal was all ****ed up inside.

then i went ahead and compression tested it.97 105 102 100 (around there)

Tore the head off, and the exhaust chambers were just straight up WHITE. replaced the gasket, put it all back together. Compression jumped to 150ish

still overheated.took the head off again, measured it, and it was FOUR TIMES the maximum limit of 'warpage' aloud.

Slapped on another head i had lying around, and now shes 176 across all four and runs beautiful

ball joint was shot though, just replaced that and balanced the tires today.
