The best battery, Optima, their also a few hundred dollars. Go to Sears or Pep Boys and get a Die Hard or something good, no cheap $20 dollar battery. If you know it's your battery ofcourse, which you don't.

Don't start swaping parts cause you may end up paying more money in the long run. How old is your battery?

Well, if you want a good battery, don't get diehard. Everything else is fine. I'd probably borrow a battery to see if it is the battery. If the car starts fine with a new battery but dies after a while and refuses to start. Or just clicks no turning over... then chances are it's your alternator. More info would greatly help too.

Autozone's Duralast has recently been voted(i cant remember who did the test...) the best standard battery you can buy.

Optima's own all.. They are damn expensive but i think they are worth the extra cash. You never have to worry about your battery dying, that piece of mind is worth the cost. I have about 4 yellow tops in different vehicles, and have used them for 5-6 years. None of them have crapped out yet...

What I would do is check the alternator first by jumping the car off and disconnecting one of the battery terminals. If the car keeps running the alternator is working and supplying the juice needed to feed the fuel pump and such, if it dies you have either a bad alternator or bad wiring somewhere. I found last night that either my wiring was wrong or that my alternator has yet again, fudged the bucket (I just got it rebuilt a year ago).

As for batteries, the best recommendation I can give it to get one with the longest warranty. I have bought one battery in the past 4 years, and my wiring/alternator keeps killing them just in time to swap it out for a new one.

A few hundred for an Optima redtop? pfffff... They are usually around $130 but I can guarantee it's the last battery you will buy as long as you own your 240. I've had mine for about 7 years now.
