+1 for optima batteries, small and light. Some people even use a battery that a mazda miata uses.

I had the same issue with optimas. I'm sure they are great batteries but they cost a lot in comparison. I went with a walmart battery, I know I know... But the walmart battery has a warranty and cost less. It's a three year warranty and they replaced mine about a week before that three years was up, now I have another 3 on the replacement battery at no extra cost. I like the idea of being able to get a new battery pretty much anywhere I am. Mine lasted three years and never had a problem until the end.

That being said it's a liquid (acid) battery where as I believe the optimas are dry, I don't know much about them really except I keep hearing very good things. I think if I had a setup like you are describing (relocated to trunk) I would want to make sure that if I did have a liquid battery it was in a box so no leakage issues ever happened. Otherwise, optimas are great from what I hear.

Or I could (as usual) be wrong about the whole damn thing!

i used to sell batteries so i have a pretty good feel for whats out there. optimas are def worth it in my opinion. they last for years longer then a regular battery. i finally had to replace a very old optima that lasted a very long time, i would probably still have it if i have a proper trickle charger for it at the time. i tested my optima before i bought it and it put out 1200 cca. the biggest thing about optima batteries is the spiral cell design it allows more connectivity to the lead plates allowing for higher cca ratings and long life

Optima batteries are a great choice especially if you are trunk mounting the battery because they don't have to be vented, and you don't have to worry about acid and hydrogen in the event of a crash. If you are going with an optima I would get a 35 series yellowtop if you have a lot of electrical things (fans, stereo etc), redtop if you dont have a lot of electrical parts
However if you don't feel like dropping that kind of coin on a battery, you can save a little by just going with a regular AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery, these are also sealed batteries. The main differnece is they have regular lead plates instead of the spiral cell design.
hope this helps

We have a fleet of about 15 vehicles of at my household..in wisconsin. So we get the pleasure of swapping out batteries on a regular basis, especially those nice -degree days where the car just wont turn over. In my own experiance over the last couple years, I have found that the only batteries that are worth while are dealer batteries.

Can you get a battery from walmart with a 3 year warranty? Yup. Can you go and get a autozone battery pretty cheap? Yup. Both options are going to be cheaper than a dealer battery.

HOWEVER, Dealer batteries come with around 7 year warranty. In my experiance, we have the LEAST amount of problems with dealer batteries. Walmart ones need to be replaced every 2 years...dealer batteries we usually get atleast 5+ out of EASY. Just remember, nissan/infiniti puts those batteries in the car for a reason.
