OK guys, I need everyone's expert input here.

In order to make room for a remote oil filter (so I can change my own damn oil AND add an oil cooler AND run a bigger oil filter AND have 40 less pounds over the right front wheel), I'm planning to relocate the battery to the trunk.

I'd like to keep my Nissan battery (it's newer and still under warranty). I plan to use a NHRA-style battery box. I'll be making my own cables out of 0-gauge welder cable and running both to their original locations. I'll be re-using the original tray and hold-downs, and I'll bolt the box directly to the trunk floor in the right-forward corner of the trunk.

Anything I've not considered? Any changes I should make or things to look out for? I'm open to all suggestions....

Where are you running the cables? If under the car, you should probably shield them from the harsh conditions under the car. Rocks and debris will damage the sheething under there which may allow the cables to short to the frame or underbody. I would incorporate a metal shield of some sort. Possibly you would use flexible conduit made of pvc or metal, that can be purchased at a home improvement store. It is used in homes to protect 220v lines from punctures. Alternatively, your could run the cables through the cabin and under the carpet llike BMW does on many of its cars. Sounds like a great project!

Oh, also, better rig some type of drain on the battery box out to the bottom of the car. Weeped or spilled acid will eat every thing in its path! One other thought has to do with the gas tank located in the trunk. Because the rear panel is not air tight and gas fumes could leak out of the hoses or pump, I may hesitate to locate the battery in the closed compartment. Any fume leaks and a spark from the battery and BOOM! That high octane stuff we use is pretty hot. As I am writing this, I am leaning away from the trunk relocation. Also, if that happened, Nissan would not be liable for any injuries or death based on your modification of the system.

AZ,Glad to see you're beating me to the remote oil mount. I'm not familiar with the NHRA battery box but I assume it is air-tight and vents outside. The whole battery relocate is just too much work for this old man. An AGM type battery would be the only battery safe enough for a closed environment like a trunk. I'm going to make up an oil-filter mounting bracket inside the left fender liner area. It looks like there is enough room and the filter could be accessed through the active suspension cooler location. That phony louvered panel could be cut out and reattached with Dutz type fasteners. I'll get a better idea of room when I do front brakes this Friday. Keep us posted. Steve

Steve - Give me some more details on this location - I'm not visualizing it very well (nothing new there).

You can buy a battery relocation kit from Summit for around $50. It comes with cables and associated parts.

Part # SUM-G1200A

You can use the vehicle chassis to transport the Negative cable. ie: Bolt the negative cable to the chassis at both ends of the vehicle.

NB The R33GTR has the battery just behind the rear seat in the Trunk above the Fuel tank. They have a special battery that uses a plastic hose to breathe, like a Motor Bike battery, & it vents out under the car.

That battery is available at Sears, called the "International" series. We have one in the trunk (front) of our 911. BTW GM made a similar Delco for the Corvair back in the 60's!

Don't know the specs as to CCR of the Porsche battery. For normal use the technique of "give me the biggest one you have" seems to work for the Q.

There is a hose that drains the antenna that you could splice into for battery venting.
