Does a battery relocation need a switch on the outside of the car to pass tech?

I want a relocation kit because there is no room to work with the battery and the intercooler pipe that goes through the battery tray, but my friend said I will need an external switch on the outside of the car if I want to do it for safety reasons at the track.

Truth?

Anyway around it?

My only concern is passing tech at Solo/SCCA events.

Depends on the rules for the event you'll be running in. I'm not familiar with the SCCA rule on this, but NHRA rules require an external switch.

Not hard to do, but a PITA when the neighborhood kids figure out what it is... :D

BTW - Consider switching to an Optima battery so you don't have to do the whole "battery box" and venting hassle.

NHRA says yes.IHRA says no.

Just remember though, the battery switch has to be weatherproof, and plainly visible, and RED.

Nah, you just have to make sure it's "on" when you go out to start your car...

Still need to check SCCA's rules - I don't think they require the external switch but I could be wrong.
