I have a J30,93 and my battery was going bad.I got another one from a friend of mine the battery type is 75-DT-60 CCA - 525, CA-630.He had it previosly on Daewoo.I tried to put it on the car and right after I started it, the car started to act weird. The baterry light and some other light came on the dash. Then after I shut it and tried to started again it lost power.Right now when I turn the key there is no lights on the dash or the interior nothing. The car won't start or anything.I don't know if it shorted. What fuse is most likely to blow if you short the battery or could this battery be too strong or anything like that for the J. I now the battery is charched. Does it make any difference what battery do you put on the car? I really hope it's just a fuse and I didn't ruin the electric on the car. Thanks

Did you hook the positive and negative battery cables to the correct terminals. For some reason the type of battery used in the J30 has them on opposite ends of the battery compared to most batteries, which irks me because I couldn't use a brand new battery from my G20 because of this in my J30.And you can't just switch the cables around on an incorrect battery because they are too short to reach. If you did hook the battery up wrong and the fuses didn't save them, then you probably fried everything that had any diodes or transistors or electrolytic capacitors in it.

what fuses should I check? Is there main fuse somewhere right on the battery positive cable? Do you mean if thoose fuses are OK that the whole electronic in the car could be burnt? When I was putting the battery in, the plastic red and black caps were swiched for some reason and I didn't pay attention on the "+" and "-" on the battery itself. So I found out that it's wrong after it sparked. So after I connected it wright the car started and then the battery light came on the dash with some other lights. After that I tried to start it again and that was it.

A poster named Paul Wall has done a lot of research on the electrical wiring and can probably help you more. Do a search on FSM and you can probably find an online copy of the factory service manual that would have an electrical wiring diagram, but be warned they use a lot of non-standard symbols. Yes there is a main fuse, I believe they call it a fusible link.If you were lucky a lot of stuff like the stereo system were turned off so didn't get fried. You may have fried the diodes in your alternator unless the fuse blew fast enough to save them. Just hope you didn't burn up the engine control module (computer). There is a fuse box next to the parking brake pedal, start checking fuses.

The power came back. There weren't any bad fuses. The car started but when I measure the voltage on the battery terminals with the car on, it slowly increases and from 12V goes over 15V.I didn't let the car run any longer because I thought it may short something else.Anyway I may have to replace the whole alternator rather than dealing just with the voltage regulator.I hope this will take care of the problem.

Get yourself an OEM Nissan alternator, either new or remanned unit. Aftermarket ones don't work well in this car.

When the alternator is charging the battery the voltage across the battery terminals usually does read more than 12 volts, maybe in the 13.2 to 14.4 volt range according to the article I attached a link for. In fact a fully charged 12 volt battery will actually read 12.6 volts with an accurate voltmeter when not being charged. So assuming your meter is accurate 15 volts when charging may not be too much high, but if it went even higher I guess that would eventually ruin the battery and burn out your light bulbs prematurely. But the article does say above 14.4 volts the battery will gas and you will have to check to see if you have to add distilled water quite often.

Here is a link to a Wikopedia article on 12 volt car batteries.http://en.wakopedia.org/wiki/C...ltage
