Battery problem or Alternator?

Boosted the 89 240 (sr20det fmic) with a friends car today, it starts up strong. Then about 10 seconds after taking the cables off it just dies.

Sound like an alternator problem?We had the cables on the battery for a few minutes prior to starting it up.

The old alternator trick. Sounds like that's what it is.

Why not get a voltmeter and put it on the battery while the cars running? That will tell you your problem right there.

Or hit the altenator with a hammer
