in my 99Q after an extended period of driving the battery and brake light will stay on. I just replaced my alternator and had to resoder a new plug from the harness to the alternator since the old one was burnt to a crisp and shattered when I was removing it. I had autozone check the battery starter and charging system, everything was good. So then y is the battery light and brake light coming on outta no where?? Please let me know

Where did you get the alternator? Why did you replace the alternantor? Check your battery cables and ground. I looks like hte sending unit from the new alternator for the idiot light is bad. You might need to replace with a better brand rebuilt or a new alternator.

The issue is why did the pigtail get burnt, then you had a short, or over load.

Battery and alternator must meet OEM specifications.

3rd party alternators often do not and are only partial rebuilds.

bought the alternator from autozone. They said it's a refurb from the dealer. Reason y I had to replace the pig tail was cuz the other one caught on fire. There's a whole thread on it here somewhere. It was only a month ago all this happened and I finally found the plug to fix it last week.

They lied unless "from the dealer" means it originally was manufactured by Nissan. 12 month/12K miles warranty, I hope.

Take it to an automotive electrical specialty shop and have them load test it. A scope will show any abnormalities like if the diodes were not replaced.

The first thing I'd do is go to autozone and tell the you want your money back on that alternator, you were lied to, they do NOT have a Nissan alternator, the only dealer it came from was theirs. In my experience anything other than factory suck, I had several different ones put in by incompentent shops and all failed and left me stranded again.

I would start with a fresh factory refurb alternator and than trouble-shoot from there, get your money back from them while you can, the out-right lied to you, more than likey it is cheapo Mexico alternator that will fail in 12-14 months...I had two of them that did, boht replaced by the wife after breakdowns when I was out of the country.

At least i thought it was from the dealer... the case says nissan and everything and match my old one exactly... but apparently there's more to it then meets the eye..
