Hey all,

I have an issue with my car's performance. Here is the issue; http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....80665

Anyway, I noticed that the battery light is half lit at idle and it slowly turns off as the RPMs rise. This happens if I am in neutral revving the car up or in gear accelerating.

I have already tried a new ground wire to the battery (I needed to replace it anyway because it would not fit securely onto the battery terminal). I also ran a wire to another point on the frame to try to establish a better ground. I also know that my battery is fine. I have also checked the battery light while having another car's battery jumped to my 240. Still the same thing happens.

Any ideas?? Could this be related to my bogging issue??

Thanks

Sounds like a problem with the charging system... odds are your alternator is giving low current to the battery. This would cause surging as well as a low charge warning.

Also it would make the warning go away when you rev the car due to the increased rpm within the alternator.

Replace it before it leaves you stranded. You also might wanna test the voltage regulator.

i know you posted about this before but it did not occur to me that the batt light went out as you revved. just get another alt. i would highly reccomend that you get a junkyard oem NISSAN alt before you get an aftermarket or rebuilt unit. i have seen about 1,000 rebuilt alts do what you are complaining about right out of the box. they will test good at the parts store when you take it back too. trust my foul-ups on that.

Cool!! Thanks for the advice.

Do you think this could be a possible reason for my bogging??

My 240 is not a daily driver. That is why I have not taken it to a shop to have it fixed. I am trying to troubleshoot it myself. Thanks for all the help you have provided.

It's possible. Bad charging systems can cause weird things to happen. Fix one problem at a time.

I see.

I will take it to AutoZone to have it tested. I hope this is the issue.

The weird thing is the car starts up perfectly fine. Maybe the alternator isn't putting out the correct voltage?? I don't know. *shrugs*

Thaks for the help.

that could be it or it could be "alternating". this is no good as there is a rectifier bridge specifically to convert alternating current to good ol' 12v dc. i wish all alts just failed by voltage output as i would only need my meter to diagnose one. gm alts tend to fail in current output.

Ok. I will have a shop check the alternator.

The reason why I ask is because I actually had a similar thing happen to my Prelude. I had to put anew alternator belt on and in the process, the alternator plug slightly came out. It was no longer working. However, the car stil ran fine. The only time the car actually stated bogging was when the battery completely drained. The bogging only lasted about 30 seconds and then the car completely stalled out.

Oh well. It is something to look into anyway.
