Hey everyone.

I haven't drove or even started my 2006 M35x since I got my 2011 M56x, which was always my dream car, and I am so thankful I was able to finally get it!

Anyway - the battery was dead, so I replaced it. It starts up great! But there the BRAKE and BATTERY light are on in red?

Anyone have any idea?

I did try to start the car many times to no avail, not sure if that messed up something? But the car seems to be running good, the brakes are rotors are very squeeky but thats normal I will need to be changed but that's expected from sitting for nearly a year.

How do I remove those 2 lights?

I'm not familiar with that combination but I know there are other light combinations which point at things like brake fluid, etc. Try checking the owners manual or maybe the FSM on here for what those might be.

Is it possible it could be alternator problem? Or maybe I didn't hook up the battery properly?

Actually, you mentioning alternator just triggered a light bulb. I think you might be right. Other threads do mention that as a possible fix. I'd get yours tested.

Yeah I did a bit of research on the forums, thats what people are suggesting.

Any other indicators for alternator problem?

Car seems to be running amazing now that I changed the battery ..

I am thinking maybe I damaged it by trying to start it too many times with the dead battery before I changed it?

OP, out of curiosity, what is your brake fluid level in the reservoir?

My brake fluid is too filled, past MAX, when I opened the cap, you can actually see a little bit of brake fluid where you are supposed to pour.

Another big problem I have is, I have way too much oil in the car, when i did the dip stick reading, the oil was nearly up to 1/2 of the dip stick. - What should I do?

Any idea why whoever did this did it?

Above the Min, above the Max of the graded/ bent section of the dipstick? And this is with the car on level ground? :nono:

Not to worry though, just drain it into a big container from the bottom and pour in the amount recommended in the lubrication section of your owner's manual (Might as well change the filter while at it to put it all in as fresh)

Also, use a turkey baster or syringe or soak up with a clean dry rag... to get the brake fluid to the correct level. Be careful, it will damage paint that it comes in contact with.

There is something terribly wrong with this car.

I think the alternator, I just changed the battery it was working fine, now the car just starts slowly loosing power, the lights turn off and it dies slowly, while it is dieing, the vehicle won't go more then 5 mph.

Any suggestions?

Brake Light and Battery light are one.

I also am not sure if I tightened the battery enough, which I changed 2 weeks ago.

I think it went the vehicle went limp mode, then slowly, loosing power then shut off.

I did recently change the camshaft sensor bank 2 If I remember correctly.

All these problems started after not starting the car for a very long time, then trying to start the car up, I replaced battery it was okay for a week or so, but the entire time the brake light and the battery light are on, when I start the car it will be fine for a few minutes, then it starts slowly dieing, I cant even go down the block without it slowly, dieing and while it does so it doesn't go more then 5 mph.

I would appreciate any help.

First, do an oil change to get it back to the proper level. Hopefully you can do that in your driveway. Then, siphon out the extra fluid in the power steering reservoir. Extra fluid in any system will cause damage. Disconnect the battery and leave it for at least an hour. Then re-connect it VERY tight. Hopefully, that will re-set everything and the car will run. Take it an auto parts store where they can do a check on the electrics and see if your alternator is working correctly. Assuming this works, I recommend taking it to the dealer for something cheap like tire rotation, etc. They will hand you a list of all the items they find need attention and you can decide which items you want to fix and when.
