We just had a huge snow storm and when it was over i tried to start my car and it wouldn't start. There was no power to the lights or anything. I took the battery out and tried to charge it but the multimeter read 0.73 volts and was unable to charge so we took the battery to an auto store and we got a new battery. It started right up when we put the new battery in. The next day I tried to start it and the new battery was dead and read 0.37 volts. and wont start nothing was left on overnight. The temperature is around 5 degrees.

Something is definitely draining the battery, probably bad wiring or bad ground somewhere. Is there any weird/messed up wiring anywhere? Either that or something is continuing to draw power even after the ignition is switched off.

Make sure the interior lights turn off after you close the door, unplug your hood sensor and inspect your wiring from the positive terminal to the starter motor.

So we got it to charge and it was fine. when we got it we took out the hood latch sensor so thats not the problem. We think that just because it was a new battery that it wasnt charged all the way and thats why it died. The next morning it started right up and the battery was fine. Thanks for all your info

Can you guys elaborate on the hood sensor? If you leave your hood up, will it drain the battery? I've had some dead battery issues that were mostly my fault (leaving hatch/door open, headlights on when I park with turbo timer), but I've had a couple that I'm not sure why happened.

On the drivers side of the engine bay there is a white button that sticks up when the hood is open. This tells the car that the hood is stick open. If you go the bottom of that button there is a connector that you can disconnect so that it does not drain your battery if the hood is open.

Funny thing, it's not supposed to be white. It's actually supposed to be in a rubber boot. When the boot cracks, it's most likely going to fail soon.
