hey guys I have a 89 240sx w/ a sr20det (black top) motor I just bought a new battery w/ 700cold cranking amp when I noticed that it was having problem starting so I tested the alternator and found out it was only charging at 11.3 volts so I had the alternator rebuilded ($300) while driving it it charges @ 13.8 volts w/ a full load when I shut the car off the battery has 12.5 volts appox. 24 hours later it has 11.4 volts

at first the cluster lights would stay on after searching in nico I found out if you remove the bulb check relay it solved the problem and it did

but now the battery is slow draining I've read that this has happen to a couple people but couldnt find the answer

also some of the people with this problem end up going through alternator like cops at a dount convention (ps I really am a cop in nyc and its true lol)

so I would like to try and resolve this problem asap for me and for the other member with the same problem

thanks in advanceadam

Get a multimeter, disconnect the negative battery cable, install the multi meter between the neg post on the battery and the neg battery cable. Before you do this make sure all of your interior lights are off.

You shouldn't have much of a draw at all like this. Maybe around 30-mA. If you have anything more, start pulling fuses until you find the circuit that is drawing power. From there you can go to the wiring diagrams and hopefully figure out what is on that circuit and then track it down.

With problems like this there really isn't a simple solution.

I have a quick question if you look at the alternator wiring diagram you see at junction point number such as (58m and 103m) can someone explane what these are if there fusible links maybe I can go to find these a little easier

thanks in advance adam
