Just got my beautiful EX35 (lease) today and I LOVE IT! Have been reading this forum for about a wk now and appreciate your experience and advise!
I was so into those gaugets after I picked up the car this afternoon, I spent quite some time setting up the phone book, recording CDs, etc. with the ignition @ "Acc." Before I knew it, the power was shut off! Called the Infinity service guy who informed me that Infiniti automatically shuts off the power after 30 min on Acc or if the insight lights are on, to avoid draining the battery totally. (The sales person NEVER warned me about that when I got the car today! ) And now the only way to start this car would be to call AAA for a jump-start (since I don't have cable myself)!!
Sorry if this kinda thing might never happen to you experienced drivers, but I do have a few questions:1) Isn't it a little too "unforgiving"? I agree to have some safety guard setting, but do I HAVE to jump start after it happens or is there any other alternative to turn the power back on?2) I thouht people often leave the ignition at "Acc" (to listen to radio, etc.) for quite a while after they arrive instead of turning off their car totally. Does that mean I can NEVER do that on this Infiniti? 3) I understand the outside lights will be off automatically so it won't drain the battery, is there anything INSIDE of the car which I MIGHT accidentally leave on to cause the same trouble after this little 30 min??
Sorry for so many questions. I would appreciate someone's help here!
Even with this eventful 1st day, I still REALLY enjoy this beautiful, quiet, fast car with all high tech stuff!
First off congratulations on your EX and welcome to the board! Just got mine too this past Saturday and it is awesome.
Depending on how long your car was sitting on the dealer lot and not being started your battery might have been on low charge before you even started playing with all the tech stuff with the engine off. The shutting off at 30 mins maybe standard safety feature if the ignition was in the OFF position and you were at the retained accessory feature but if the ignition was at ACC it shouldn't have done that unless the battery died completely like on your situation. If the battery was at full charge you would have been able to start the car again with no problem.
Instead of calling AAA you should call Roadside Assistance from Infiniti since your car is new. They can help you out w/ locked doors, flat tire, empty gas, dead battery etc for free.
